The administration suspended the internet services in the five localities in order to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain peace, said Eastern Range Director General of Police Satyajit Nayak. The suspension of internet services was enforced after the death of Santosh Parida (45) of Kasati village under the Tihidi police station limits during a clash over cattle smuggling. Parida was critically injured in the clash on May 30 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He succumbed to injuries on Wednesday. The DIG said that altogether 12 people, including the prime accused in the Parida's death, have been arrested, and urged the citizens to maintain peace and not to believe in social media posts. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed the officials to ensure that all the accused persons were arrested. He had announced a compensation package for the next of kin of the family of the deceased. The compensation package includes Rs 10 lakh in cash, a job for one of his family members and financial cover for his children's studies. Bhubaneswar, June 12 (UNI) The Bhadrak District Administration has suspended internet services for 24 hours, starting from 6 AM on Thursday, anticipating a law and order issue following the death of a man who was injured in a communal clash a few days ago. The administration stated that internet services would remain suspended from 6 AM Thursday to 6 AM Friday in sensitive areas including Bhadrak Municipality, Bhadrak Block, Tihidi Block, Dhamnagar Block, and Dhamnagar Notified Area Council (NAC) as a precautionary measure to maintain public order. Santosh Parida, a resident of Kasati village in Tihidi, who had sustained injuries during a communal clash on May 30, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday at a private hospital. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had already announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to Parida's next of kin and promised employment for one family member. Expressing grave concern over the incident, Majhi assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits and justice would be served. The Odisha government has deployed 27 platoons of police in the affected areas. So far, 12 individuals, including the prime accused, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Efforts are also underway to organise peace committee meetings involving leaders from both communities to prevent law and order problems.
