Unbeaten Dhamgaye wins Barat memorial chess title
Nagpur: Fifth seed Pramod Dhamgaye remained unbeaten to clinch the 11th Kamal Kumar Barat Memorial Nagpur District veteran rapid chess title at the Dhanwate National College hall on Sunday. Sunil Chelani and TM Kawadkar completed the podium finish. Later Shreyans Kamdar, NDCA vice president distributed the prizes. On the occasion, Kaustav Barat, NDCA secretary KK Barat, SN Parkhi, chief arbiter Pravin Pantawane, Deepak Patrikar and Dinesh Kokate were present. Muslim Marathi literary summit highlights heritage and cultural unity
Nagpur: The 10th All India Muslim Marathi Sahitya Sammelan began with enthusiasm at Dhanwate National College on Saturday, celebrating the rich literary contributions of Muslim authors, poets, and writers who preserved Marathi as their mother tongue across generations. Delivering the keynote address, summit president Dr SN Pathan said, "Muslim writers nurtured their love for Marathi for generations, creating a vibrant world of literary expression. This summit is a platform to showcase their voices and contributions in their beloved mother tongue." The summit was inaugurated by Prof Anupama Ujagare. Reception committee chief Prof Sharayu Baban Taywade and chief coordinator Prof Javed Pasha Qureishi also addressed the gathering. Several thought-provoking symposiums were held during the day on topics such as 'The Literature of Muslim Marathi Saints and the Motive of Saint Movement', 'The Commitment of Muslim Marathi Literature with Fule-Shahu-Ambedkar Thought', and 'The Pain and Rebellion Reflected in Muslim Marathi Literature'. In the evening, the much-acclaimed poetry show 'Mirza Express' by noted poet Dr Mirza Rafi Ahmed Baigh captivated the audience, followed by the play 'Sanmananiya Shandhanno'. The day concluded with a vibrant multilingual poetry summit presided over by senior poet Siraj Shikalkar from Sangli in which around 100 poets participated, making it a fitting finale to the day's celebrations. Nagpur to Host 10th All India Muslim Marathi Literary Summit on April 26–27
Nagpur: The city is set to host the 10th edition of the All India Muslim Marathi Literary Summit on April 26 and 27 at Dhanwate National College . The venue will be temporarily renamed 'Dr Akram Pathan Sahitya Nagari' for the event, which is being organised by the All India Muslim Marathi Sahitya Parishad. The summit will be presided over by former vice-chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Dr U M Pathan. In light of recent communal unrest in parts of Nagpur's old city, the choice of venue has drawn public attention. Addressing this, Jawed Pasha Kureishi emphasised that the summit's core aim is to promote peace, harmony, and cultural unity. "We are Marathi-speaking Muslims. We don't identify ourselves with the Mughals or Aurangzeb. Our identity is rooted in Marathi — the language we speak, write, and cherish," he said, while speaking to the media alongside Dr Bhola Sarwar and Dr Ramesh Pise. The inaugural ceremony will be held on April 26 at 11 am, with Prof Anupama Ujgare from Mumbai formally inaugurating the event. Reception committee chairperson Prof Sharayu Taywade and several other dignitaries will also be present on the dais. Renowned Muslim writers and poets will be felicitated during the ceremony. The concluding ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 pm on April 27.
