[Learn more about Safer Ohio School Tip Line in the player above.] JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) — A Sauder Elementary School third-grader found with a loaded handgun in his backpack had previously threatened another student, according to police. Jackson Township police officers responded at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16, to the school along Mudbrook Street Northwest in Massillon, according to a news release. New Jersey teen held captive, locked in dog cage, escapes with neighbor's help: police Another student reported the gun to the school's resource officer, Superintendent Chris DiLoreto wrote in a Friday afternoon statement. That officer then confronted the 10-year-old student and confiscated the loaded .45-caliber firearm, police said. No one was harmed, DiLoreto said. Investigators then learned the boy had previously threatened another student and the resource officer, according to police. 'All students and staff at Sauder Elementary followed safety protocols and remained safe during this matter,' reads the release. 'This incident remains under investigation.' The student was arrested on felony counts of inducing panic and illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon and transported to a Stark County juvenile detention center, police said later Friday. FOX 8 News has decided to withhold his name. Police are continuing to investigate and there may be more arrests, according to the Friday update. 'Thanks to the swift and responsible actions of those involved, all students are safe. This is now a law enforcement matter, and we are working in full coordination as they conduct a thorough investigation,' DiLoreto wrote. 'We know that hearing this news is distressing. We want to reassure you that the safety and well-being of your children is our highest priority. Our district's safety protocols were followed and worked as designed. DiLoreto ('86) was a baseball and football star at Everett, playing quarterback and safety as a senior before attending Notre Dame. He served as an assistant in 2017, John DiBiaso's final season, then served as offensive coordinator in 2018 under Theluxon Pierre. 'My heart is in Everett now and was and always will be,' DiLoreto said. 'When I stepped away from coaching two years ago, I became the biggest fan again of Everett football and when the opportunity came up and the job opened I jumped in 100 percent. 'One of the things I have always felt is very special about Everett high school football is what we call the Everett football family,' he said. 'That's a culture that was built long before I was even born and will continue for many generations to come. This fall's seniors were freshmen during his final season, which saw the Crimson reach the Division 1 quarterfinals. 'I feel like I have a really solid familiarity with the program and with some of the players,' he said. 'I look forward to meeting all of the new players and assembling a staff of coaches who share the same values as I do.' DiLoreto got his coaching start at Pope John XXIII, where he won the 1998 Division 6 Super Bowl and was named Globe Coach of the Year. He spent the next five years as head coach at Arlington, before serving as an assistant at Austin Prep and Malden Catholic. Related : In 2008 he joined the Reading staff as offensive coordinator, helping spur a stretch in which the Rockets recorded seven Middlesex League championships, reached three Super Bowls and took home a pair of titles. From there, he joined DiBiaso's staff at Everett, helping the program claim its 12th Super Bowl with an undefeated season. After one season under Pierre, DiLoreto returned to Arlington as head coach in 2019 before his alma mater in 2020.
