Notre Dame baseball blows out Miami behind two Carson Tinney HR's to win road series

Notre Dame baseball blows out Miami behind two Carson Tinney HR's to win road series In a series that Notre Dame baseball needed to keep its hopes alive for a NCAA Tournament bid, the Irish did exactly that. The two teams split the first two games, and on Saturday afternoon, played the rubber match, with Notre Dame coming out victorious 12-2. The game wasn't as lopsided as the final looks, as the two teams were even at 2 after five innings of play. That's when the Irish offense exploded for ten runs over the final four innings. Star catcher Carson Tinney, who was named as a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist earlier in the week, led the offense with three hits, two of them for home runs and 4 RBI on the day. Shortstop Estevan Moreno wasn't a slouch at the dish either, as he also added a homer and 3 RBI. Jackson Dennies got the start for Notre Dame, going 4 and two-thirds innings, allowing just two runs with two strikeouts. Ricky Reeth came in relief and shut the door on the Hurricanes, going 2 and-a-third scoreless and then Oisin Lee closed it out with 2 innings of scoreless ball. The win puts Notre Dame's overall record at 32-20, with an ACC record of 14-16. This series win should help its chances to make the NCAA Tournament, as Miami is expected to make the field as well. The regular season is over for the Irish, with the ACC Tournament set to start on May 20th.

UNC's starting catcher, ace pitcher nominated for college baseball top individual honor

UNC's starting catcher, ace pitcher nominated for college baseball top individual honor UNC is one of college baseball's best teams – and has two of the best players in college baseball. Game recognize game 🤝 Jake Knapp and @StevensonLuke44 have been named among the nation's best. — Carolina Baseball (@DiamondHeels) May 15, 2025 The North Carolina Tar Heels entered their 2025 baseball season with plenty of question marks, having to replace the likes of all-time program greats, most notably Vance Honeycutt. UNC re-tooled its entire outfield, replaced its starting first baseman and a couple key bullpen pieces. North Carolina returned whom have proved to be the most important pieces of its 2025 roster, though: starting catcher Luke Stevenson and ace pitcher Jake Knapp. Stevenson leads the Diamond Heels with 16 home runs, a .584 slugging percentage and 391 putouts. Jake Knapp is arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball this year: he finished UNC's regular season with an 11-0 record (second in all of Division-I), sports a 2.14 earned run average and leads all UNC pitchers with 74 strikeouts. Both Stevenson and Knapp recently earned recognition for their contribution amongst college baseball's best. On Thursday, each member of North Carolina's top battery was named a Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist. The Dick Howser Trophy is awarded annually to the best player in college baseball. If Stevenson or Knapp wins this award, it would mark the first time a Diamond Heel did so. There's still plenty of baseball left for North Carolina this season, continuing on with next week's ACC Tournament and the ensuing NCAA Tournament Regionals. On Friday, UNC clinched a double-bye in the ACC Tournament, which it hopes to win for the second time in four seasons. Stevenson deserves consideration to be a Dick Howser Trophy Finalist, but Knapp deserves to win the award. He missed all of 2024 with a torn UCL – and looks like college baseball's best pitcher in 2025. Notre Dame baseball star named a semifinalist for a top national award

Notre Dame baseball star named a semifinalist for a top national award It has been quite the season for Notre Dame baseball's catcher Carson Tinney, and he is getting recognized nationally for his elite play. The sophomore leads the team in batting average with a .352 mark, slugging with an absurd .752, homers with 15, and RBI with 49. Tinney has been great behind the dish as well, posting a .990 fielding percentage. That led the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association to name him as a semifinalist for the 2025 Dick Howser Trophy, given out annually to the best player in college baseball. It's a huge honor for Tinney, who has taken a huge leap in his second season in South Bend. The future is very bright for Tinney, as he most likely will be playing his final season of collegiate baseball next year before getting taken in the MLB draft. He's already outplayed his recruiting ranking, and will look to continue his great play as the Irish try and make the NCAA Tournament over the next two weeks.
