OCCI AI and Digital Economy committee sets 2025 roadmap
MUSCAT: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (OCCI) Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence Committee convened its first meeting of 2025, outlining key priorities for the year ahead. The meeting, chaired by Eng Ibrahim bin Abdullah al Hosni, brought together committee members to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at advancing Oman's digital transformation.
At the core of the discussions was the committee's five-pillar strategy, which focuses on digital legislation, the digital economy, digital investment, digital skills, and the national digital transformation agenda. Each pillar includes targeted initiatives and measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and impact.
A major topic was the modernization of economic activities to align with technological advancements. The committee explored efforts to streamline company registration and classification, ensuring businesses keep pace with the evolving digital landscape. Another key decision was the approval of a project to catalog Omani artificial intelligence applications and specializations, which will be implemented this year.
The meeting also reviewed Oman's participation in major global technology events, including the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai (June 18–20), COMEX 2025, and Expo Japan 2025. These platforms are expected to provide valuable networking opportunities and showcase Omani innovation on the global stage.
Additionally, the committee discussed launching digital skills initiatives in collaboration with private-sector partners and professional associations. These initiatives aim to enhance digital literacy among entrepreneurs and the broader community, fostering a stronger knowledge-based economy.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Oman's digital economy and AI-driven growth, ensuring businesses remain competitive in an increasingly tech-driven world. – ONA
