Accurate digitized land records help resolve issues, says Union Minister
Comprehensive land surveys and digitization of land records play a crucial role in resolving long-pending disputes and strengthening economic security, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said during a national workshop held here on Thursday. The two-day workshop organized by the Ministry of Rural Development focused on land resurvey and digitization efforts across the country under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP). Andhra Pradesh Revenue, Registrations & Stamps Minister Anagani Satya Prasad participated alongside Dr. Chandra Sekhar as chief guest. Dr. Chandra Sekhar pointed out that Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and a few other States are progressing at a commendable pace in implementing the land resurvey program. However, to bring uniformity in progress across the nation, the central government organized this workshop, inviting officials from Union Territories and other States to review and accelerate the work. 'Land in our country is more than property — it holds emotional, cultural, and financial significance. Yet, disputes over land often drag on for decades in courts, causing immense hardship to landowners,' Dr. Chandra Sekhar observed. Recalling his personal experience in the United States, the Union Minister said he was surprised when a property registration was completed within just 15 minutes at his home there. He highlighted the need for India to adopt similar efficiency by using available technology. 'This is the first land resurvey in over a hundred years, and it must be done with utmost care. We are addressing issues like staff shortages and funding constraints, and have instructed officials to complete the survey within the stipulated time using advanced technology,' he added. Dr. Chandra Sekhar underlined that accurate and updated land records will particularly benefit small and marginal farmers, women, and SC/ST communities. He also lauded the development of Amaravati, describing it as a model capital city in the making. In urban areas, he stressed the importance of ensuring smooth digitization of land records to enhance transparency and accessibility. Prominent attendees included Prathipadu MLA B. Ramanjaneyulu, Special Chief Secretary and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration G. Jayalakshmi, Department of Land Resources (DoLR) Secretary Manoj Joshi, and DoLR Director D.N. Joshi.

State conducting resurvey with precision, says Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister
Participating in the National Workshop on land survey under Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) in Guntur alongside Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad asserted that the State is now conducting the resurvey of lands in a systematic and transparent manner. On the occasion, on Thursday, he criticized the previous YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh for carrying out the resurvey hastily and inaccurately across 6,688 villages, which led to widespread complaints from landowners. Issues included errors in land boundaries, ownership names, land classification, and reduced land measurements, causing significant dissatisfaction among farmers and landholders. Minister Satya Prasad alleged that the previous administration ignored Central government guidelines requiring advance notice and participation of landowners during the resurvey. In some cases, surveys were influenced by local YSRCP leaders to benefit their affiliates. To address grievances, the current government organized gram sabhas in all completed resurvey villages, receiving over 2.8 lakh complaints — every one of which has been resolved, the Minister said. Since January 20, the NDA government has completed error-free resurvey in 628 villages and is currently working in 758 more as part of the second phase. He assured that the entire resurvey across Andhra Pradesh will be completed by 2027 and pledged protection for the rights of the poor residing in free-hold lands.

UP Government earmarks Rs 121 crore to digitally modernise land records
The state government has approved a Rs 121 crore project to digitally modernize land records across the state. The initiative, sanctioned under the Centre's Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP), aims at streamlining land-related services, eliminating bureaucratic hurdles and ensuring transparency. The project will involve the digitisation of key land documents such as maps, khasra, and khatauni, making them accessible to citizens with just a click. A comprehensive digital data bank will be developed to store and manage these records efficiently. This will not only ease public access to land documents but also reduce dependency on manual processes in government offices. According to the government, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to accelerate the digitisation process across all districts. Of the total sanctioned budget, Rs 46.45 crore has already been released, with the remaining Rs 74.64 crore set to be disbursed soon. Under this project, modern record rooms will be established across the entire state. Also, a DILRMP cell will be set up to implement this initiative. A special computer lab and data bank will also be created to ensure easy public access to land records. To ensure the convenience of the public, the department has developed a detailed action plan, which is now being implemented on the ground. The process of setting up a Project Management Unit (PMU) is currently underway. Once completed, all tasks under this plan will be executed in a timely and transparent manner, officials said.
