Chelsea star called out for ‘dressing like a janitor' at glitzy awards bash as fans joke ‘club don't pay him enough'

Tony Robertson, Digital Sports Reporter Published: Invalid Date, CHELSEA star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall caused confusion among fans for his outfit of choice at the club's glitzy end of season awards. After beating champions Liverpool 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, Chelsea hosted their End of Season club awards at London's Grosvenor House in the evening. 5 5 5 5 5 The awards for the Men's, Women's and Academy teams saw many stars turn on the glam as they arrived in sharp looking suits and dresses. Moises Caicedo picked up both the Men's Players' Player of the Season and Men's Player of the Season award, while Tyrique George won the Men's Academy Player of the Season gong. The midfielder was seen in a snazzy blazer and white shirt combo while exciting forward George sported black on black with a suit and blazer duo. Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho, Enzo Fernandez, Reece James, Marc Cucurella and Trevoh Chalobah were among the numerous others who wore blazers and shirts to the event, with some adding ties and bow-ties as well. However, Dewsbury-Hall, who joined the Blues last summer for £30million from Leicester after the arrival of former Foxes boss Enzo Maresca, appeared to be the exception as he stunned fans with his more low-key look on the blue carpet. The 26-year-old was seen wearing a dark blue buttoned up shirt with a white top underneath which he paired with matching dark blue trousers and a pair of black shoes with a white sole. Reacting on social media, one fan took a screenshot of a Chelsea social media post on Instagram and simply posted: "??" with it. A second said: "Man thought they were going to grab a beer." A third added: "He really said 'here damn'." A fourth said: "Tried to be cute with the blue but it's the WRONG shade." Chelsea to build 1,400 luxury football-themed £1m apartments in Dubai's beachfront with a branded pitch on the ROOF A fifth wrote: "Literally me when my parents force me to go a family event." Another replied with a pair of crying emojis before they said: "You guys are hurting him." A seventh added: "Well this fit is better than most of the suits some wore just that this is a bad picture." Another fan commented: "He didn't have a suit," to which another replied: "Chels don't pay him enough." Dewsbury-Hall signed a six-year deal when joining the Blues last summer and earns a tidy £80,000 a week, although this is in the middle range of the club's wage structure under Todd Boehly 's ownership. The top earner at the club currently is James, who sits on £250,000, which was one of the first new contracts handed out under the BlueCo regime to a player not signed that summer. Dewsbury-Hall has been limited to just 12 Premier League appearances this season, although more than half of his minutes have come from 11 games in the Europa Conference League. He is yet to miss a start in the competition, scoring three goals -including a last-16 second leg winner over Copenhagen - and adding two assists. A 4-1 win over Swedish side Djurgarden in the semi-final first leg put Chelsea on course to reach the final of the competition in Wroclaw, Poland, on May 28 where they will play one of Real Betis or Fiorentina.

Ryan Garcia feared losing his kids in height of mental health battle but returns to boxing with chance of redemption

Jack Figg, Digital Sports Reporter Published: Invalid Date, RYAN GARCIA feared losing his kids in the height of his public mental health breakdown - but returning to boxing is his chance of redemption. The American superstar has spoken honestly in the past about struggling with depression at times in his career. 13 13 After beating Luke Campbell in 2021, Garcia took 15-months out of the ring to deal with personal problems behind the scenes. But his fight outside the ring threatened to derail his career before facing Devin Haney in New York last year. Garcia was openly drinking and admitting to smoking cannabis in the build-up to the bout, partying throughout his training camp. Mixed in with worrying social media outbursts and conspiracies, fans and even his loved ones grew concerned for Garcia. Amazingly, the troubled boxer made it to the ring and beat Haney in a shock upset, only for the result to be overturned after a failed drug test. Now Garcia is back after accepting a one-year suspension - but thankfully turned his life around during the 12-months out. He told SunSport: "That route I was on is not sustainable as a professional athlete. "You can't be going about things in that manner as a professional and just changing my whole mindset, making sure that I get back to being the best fighter I can be and the best athlete I can be and that was the switch that I made." 13 Garcia revealed he hit his lowest point last June after trashing a Los Angeles hotel room - causing £11,000 worth of damage. He was arrested and charged with one misdemeanour count of vandalism - and feared he would lose his three children in the process. Ryan Garcia says his one-year-old son is already a champion in the making… and has his famous left hook Garcia, who went to counselling, revealed: 'I mean, as a father you've always got to be thinking about what examples you're giving to your children. "And I think as a mature man, you have to realise your mistakes and make changes, no matter how they come about. "And I think that's important. I love my kids and I love my family and making sure that I'm a great example for them is a huge priority for me. "So, I cannot be making those type of mistakes and I take responsibility and I'm ready to show them how great their daddy really is." Garcia has shares his eldest daughter Rylie with ex-girlfriend Catherine Gamez and has Bela with his former wife Andrea Celina. And in December 2023, he welcomed son Henry into the world with Andrea, who he remains close with as they parent together. The Garcia clan rolled into New York ahead of his return fight against Rolando Romero tonight - with boxing allowing him a second chance. 13 13 Garcia said: "It's everything, that's my career. This is my livelihood, this is how I support my family. "And obviously it's really important for me to be the best I could possibly be if I'm not that, then it'll be hard to do anything else." Garcia - who claimed he was drinking on the week of his fight with Haney - has cut out and traded any damaging vices. He said: "I'm just playing chess. Playing video games, playing golf, honestly." A clip of Garcia's woeful driving on the golf course emerged on social media and he laughed: "Yeah, that was bad, right? "But I gotta find some type of hobby, so it is what it is, just enjoying my time with the people around me and that's it, living the life." Garcia, 26, dropped Haney, also 26, three times in Brooklyn last April on the way to a surprise points win off the back of his turbulent prepration. 13 13 But the result was chalked off after Garcia tested positive for ostarine - known to boost muscle growth. He had returned clean tests with VADA in the build-up to the bout and his team blamed contemplated supplements for the positive result. But the positive tests were taken on the day of and 24 hours before the bout at the Barclays Center. Garcia, who was also fined nearly £1million, said: "At the end of the day, I know I didn't cheat. "I'll take the ban for a year and that keeps it moving fast. Everybody knows that I didn't take it. "I know my team, we know we didn't take anything, so honestly it doesn't really matter to me at the end of the day. "People are gonna believe whatever they want to believe, they're gonna believe I'm innocent, the large majority do believe that, so who cares?" 13 13 Garcia returns to top a stunning three-fight card in Times Square against former sparring rival Romero, 29. Haney features in his comeback bout against Jose Ramirez, 32, as a rematch with Garcia is targeted for October. Garcia said: "I think that he has a great chance to beat Ramirez. Ramirez is a little past his prime. So I expect both of us to win, for sure." Despite his failed drug test and subsequent no-contest the beatdown of Haney has left question marks of the former champion's confidence. And Garcia goaded: "I have no idea how he's gonna go about himself. I just know that I was in his head the first time. "It's hard to look past getting dropped three times, I mean, you have to address that within yourself. So I don't know how he's gonna handle that." Garcia steps up to the 147lb welterweight division to face Romero and said: "I'm just ready to go. "I may have been acting crazy last time around but I was still feeling good pretty physically, but for me this time around I feel good both, mentally and physically. "So, you know, I've done this before. I've fought many fights in my life and I'm ready, I'm in shape, ready to go 12 rounds and ready to do my job." Canelo Alvarez, 34, reveals why his own WIFE is trying to wreck his boxing retirement plans

Jack Figg, Digital Sports Reporter Published: Invalid Date, CANELO ALVAREZ is no closer to retiring from boxing - if his wife Fernanda gets her way. The Mexican icon turned professional aged just 15 and now prepares for his 67th bout against William Scull on the weekend. 15 15 Canelo has always maintained he will look to hang up his legendary gloves at 37 - vowing not to fight on for too long. But boxing fans could get the all-time great for a further three years - thanks to his model partner Fernanda. Canelo, 34, told SunSport: "Actually, my wife wants me to retire at 40! "Imagine that, and I say 'No, I don't, I don't think so.' She likes to see me fighting and all that kind of stuff. "And obviously she wants to have more kids and she wants the other kids to see me in training and seeing what I do in the training camps and this and that. "But I say to her, you know, they're gonna see me in another areas of my life, in my business and that kind of stuff, but we'll see." Canelo married Fernanda in 2021 but they met almost ten years beforehand - dating on and off until they fully reconciled and wed. The boxing champion has two daughters, Emily and Maria and a son named Saul Adiel - all with different women. 15 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS He shares youngest Maria with Fernanda and had his eldest Emily when he was just 16-years-old himself. Canelo's kids are his biggest fans and watch every one of his fights from ringside - but only after being reassured by their super-dad. He said: "They get a little bit nervous, you know, they get a little bit nervous but they like it. They scream, they support me with all they have. "I think Maria is the one with more nervous on herself because she says that she don't want somebody to hurt me or something like that. "And I say, 'Don't worry, that's why I'm here training for and doing my best here in training camp so that doesn't happen.'" Eldest Emily is the only of his children to truly understand Canelo's superstardom. He said: "I think they realise a little bit, but not the magnitude of what I do or what I am in boxing. "Maybe my older daughter, obviously she's 17, so she already realised how big I am. But my other kids Adel and Maria, maybe they realise a little bit." 15 15 15 Canelo returns in an undisputed super-middleweight title decider against Scull in Riyadh - airing on DAZN in the early hours of Sunday morning. It marks his first ever fight outside of North America - with Canelo in love with boxing as much now as he was for his pro debut 20 YEARS ago. He said: "I enjoy it a lot. Believe me, it's not that I don't be here anymore. "So I still enjoy this kind of thing, I'm gonna fight outside of United States and Mexico. "So for me, it's something I really want in my career for many years. So that motivates myself a lot." Canelo also has the chance to regain the IBF title he had to vacate last July - with Scull inheriting the belt to set up the unification. A super-fight against Terence Crawford, 37, is also expected to follow in September in Las Vegas as part of a four-bout deal with Saudi's Turki Alalshikh. 15 15 15 15 Canelo only penned the bumper contract after walking away from a shock fight with 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in May. Talks were advanced for a May 3 bout in Vegas - with news even getting back to Canelo's youngest daughter Maria. He said: "Maybe her friends told her about the fight. "Because the fathers of her friends told them and everything talking about it - because they don't know anything about boxing. "That kind of people don't know anything about boxing and they think Jake Paul is really good fighter. Which he is a fighter, but it's levels in boxing. "And that's why my daughter told me, 'You're gonna fight with Jake Paul?' And I said, 'He's not on my level my love, don't worry!' "I think it's for that fact that people don't how boxing works." Canelo still leaves the door open to the spectacle bout - but reveals he is glad the fiasco is now put behind him. He said: "I'm very happy. Things happen for a reason and I'm happy with this and I'm gonna enjoy it as much as I can." 15 15

Chris Eubank Jr has never understood what boxing is about, slams his dad ahead of controversial Conor Benn fight

Tony Robertson, Digital Sports Reporter Published: Invalid Date, CHRIS EUBANK JR has been slammed by his dad for "never understanding what boxing is about". "Next Gen" is set to face off with Conor Benn in the ring tonight at the Tottenham Hostpur Stadium, but unlike his rival he will not have his legendary dad behind him. 3 3 The Eubanks have been at odds with one another since 2019, with Eubank Jr, 35, revealing he does not speak to his old man anymore after years of idolising him. The Hove hitman, who has taken drastic measures after failing to make the weight for the 160lbs middleweight clash, has admitted he hopes his father has a change of heart and turns up for fight night. However, his former middleweight and super-middleweight champion dad has revealed what he thinks of his son's boxing career in no uncertain terms. Speaking exclusively on SunSport's Behind The Gloves series, Eubank, 58, said: "Junior has never understood what boxing is about. Boxing is about being the chief in the community. "The people will look up to you if you achieve what I'm trying to get you to. It isn't this (money making gesture) I'm trying to get you to. "I'm trying to get you to the point where the hearts of the people are with you. I'm no longer liked, I'm loved. "Why? Because I've been a gentleman right the way through on every single subject that has come in front of me." The father and son rift has shown no signs of healing during the build-up to the fight - despite this bout opening another chapter in the more than three-decade-old Eubank-Benn rivalry. In fact, the relationship has deteriorated so much that Eubank called for his son's boxing licence to be revoked after Jr cracked an egg over Benn's face in a February press conference. Indeed, Eubank Sr is no fan of the fight taking place at all, previously labelling it a "disgrace" and accusing his son of "making a mockery" of the family legacy as he faced an uphill battle to make the weight. Eubank continued: "Once you reach the top, you don't sell out. You keep your position. Because once you have reached the top it means you are a person who has inspired people. "That you have the power to steer people correctly, in the right direction. I would never sell that for money to get back in the ring. "You know what's really frustrating; I've been on these tours where you speak about boxing and I've asked the audience to ask me what I'm doing now, because obviously, if I got that far then perhaps I actually reached for something else. "I did and I got there. I'm here. So what is that? I'm a teacher, I'm a seer. And the seeing I do is for your benefit. This is the way in which I entertain, because it's fascinating." After it was revealed Eubank Jr agonisingly missed the weight mark by 0.05lbs and then 0.02lbs, he will need to pay a huge £375,000 fine to Benn as per the terms of their contract. However, he insists the pain of missing the weight and the subsequent correction techniques, including wrapping himself up in insulated sleeping bags and training on an exercise bike while wearing a sweatsuit, are nothing compared to losing the support of his dad and losing his brother. Speaking about his strained relationship with his father and pain he has felt in recent years, including two family tragedies, Jr said: "What is pain, though? "I have a 31-year old brother who is buried in the desert in Dubai, that is pain. I have his son, three years old, he asks why can't I see my daddy? Why can't he take me to school? That is pain. 'My own father, a man I idolised for my entire life, and he doesn't speak to me. We haven't spoken in years and he thinks I'm a disgrace. These things are what pain is to me." Talking about his dad in October, Jr said: "We don't talk, he has shown no interest in my career for a long period of time now. He's shown no interest in me in a long period of time. "As somebody who's lost a son, I think that's a pretty insane thing [for my dad] to be doing, an insane way to be acting – to kind of not be speaking to your remaining kids." ‘No two men should have to go through that' – Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn was so brutal his coach didn't want the rematch

Jack Figg, Digital Sports Reporter Published: Invalid Date, CHRIS EUBANK'S win over Nigel Benn in 1990 was so brutal that his coach Ronnie Davies never wanted either men to go through it again. But they did, fighting to a controversial draw three years after their classic but never settling the score with a trilogy bout. 4 Now, three decades later and their sons renew their family feud with Eubank Jr facing Conor Benn on Saturday in a middleweight grudge match. Davies - who was in the hospital ward the night Eubank Jr was born - is still haunted by the brutality of Sr's ninth-round stoppage win. He told SunSport: "After the fight, I said to Barry Hearn, 'No two men she has to go through that again.' It was horrendous, the punishment they took. "We're in the corner and you could hear the power going in and they're going, 'Is that what you've got, you're punching like a girl! Is that what you've got?' "It was brutal. Yeah, you see it was horrible." Eubank was swallowing mouthfuls of his own blood from the fourth round onwards after an uppercut from Benn. And he was left urinating blood for a WEEK after the bout - unable to even stand up in the shower on his own. But Anthony Brown - Eubank Jr's amateur coach and pad man - does not rule out the sons putting on an equally violent fight. 4 He said: "I think they're both cut from the same cloth. "I think you've got two kids that have both got something to prove to themselves and to their fathers and for the legacy. " So I think the fight can be as as good as that. It can be, can be, of course it can. "But have you ever seen Chris in a boring fight? No, that's right, so it can't be anything but." Benn - who is 23-0 with 14 knockouts but yet to step up to world level - is also rarely in a dull fight But esteemed and respect boxing brain Davies hit back: "Conor's never been in a boring fight but he hasn't thought of anybody in the same league as Eubank Jr." Eubank Jr, 35, and Benn, 28, were first due to fight in October 2022 in a 157lb catchweight clash. But it was KOd with just days to go as Benn tested positive for clomiphene - a banned substance known to boost testosterone. He protested his innocence and took his career to American - having two wins at the light-middleweight limit. Meanwhile, UK Anti-Doping dropped the case against him, allowing Benn to fight on British soil again. After the fight, I said to Barry Hearn, 'No two men she has to go through that again.' It was horrendous, the punishment they took. Ronnie Davies on Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn But after the doping scandal, Eubank Jr was in no mood to make concessions and demanded the bout be at the 160lb middleweight limit. But there is a 10lb rehydration clause - restricting what both can weigh on the morning of the bout. Benn has shown off his body transformation and dad Nigel has boasted how his son was too much for super-middleweight champion William Scull - who faces Canelo Alvarez next week - in sparring. Davies let out a chuckle as Brown responded: "Listen, we've done all that, we've walked those paths. "We've been in there with world champions and we've done all of the above. Conor is still an infant to it. We've been there. It means nothing." Davies would travel up and down the country with Eubank Sr to oversee Jr's sparring against some of Britain's best at the time. And he said: "You've gotta remember, Eubank's been brought up with top sparring for years and that's what makes you the the boys you are all the hard sparring." Brown added: "Chris was sparring British champions when he hadn't even turned pro. "Ron was there when was there getting the better of Froch for all those days up there. "So we've been there and we've seen it and done it. We've been there." 4
