Diksha to lead a contingent of five Indians at Tenerife Open on LET
Canary Islands, Diksha Dagar will lead a five-Indian contingent at the Tenerife Women's Open golf tournament in the Canary Islands this week on the the Ladies European Tour , which begins after a mini break. The tournament in Tenerife returns to the schedule for the first time since 2011. Besides, Diksha, Avani Prashanth, Tvesa Malik, Hitaashee Bakshi and Sneha Singh are the other Indians in the field of 132 players from 35 nations at the Abama Golf Resort. Pranavi Urs was also in the field but has withdrawn as she is yet to fully recover from her wrist injury. After nine events this year, Diksha is the top Indian in eighth place on the LET Order of Merit, which decides the yearlong race to crown the Tour's number one player. Diksha has played nine events, made seven cuts and finished in Top-10 four times, including a runner-up finish in Morocco. Avani, at 39th, is the second best Indian on LET Merit list. The Indian challenge includes the last two Hero Order of Merit winners in India. LET rookie Hitaashee in two starts has done well to finish T-12 at the Dutch Ladies Open and T-34 at Jabra Ladies, while Sneha will make her first start. Tvesa in six starts has made only two cuts with T-34 at Jabra Ladies as the best. The top four of the current 2025 Order of Merit are in the field. They are England's Mimi Rhodes, compatriot Cara Gainer and Czech Republic's Sara Kouskova, who secured her maiden LET victory at Evian Resort. One spot back in the Order of Merit is Chiara Tamburlini, who will no doubt be as confident as anyone in Tenerife after she secured her best ever Major result last week. The Swiss star, winner of the 2024 Order of Merit, recorded a T-14 finish at the testing US Women's Open in Wisconsin, a score helped by rounds of 69-71 to start the week. The field has 17 home stars, including Nuria Iturrioz, a four-time winner on the LET. The week will also see the return of Carly Booth after a three year injury absence. Booth last played at the Belgian Ladies Open in May 2022 but has since been sidelined due to an ACL injury and had a reconstructive knee surgery. The three-time LET winner returns this week ahead of several European events in June. The tournament previously took place between 2002-2011 and the Abama Golf course provides a tricky test for the players this week with undulation and sloppy greens.

Golf: Diksha leads Indian charge at Jabra Ladies Open
Evian-les-Bains , In-form Indian golfer Diksha Dagar will look to build on her top-10 finishes and aim for the title when she tees off at the Ladies European Tour's Jabra Open starting here on Thursday. Aside from Diksha, the Indian challenge will also include Tvesa Malik, Avani Prashanth and Hitaashee Bakshi. Pranavi Urs, who injured her wrist during the Dutch Ladies Open and had to withdraw, will rest out this and the next week. Diksha has moved into the top five of the Order of Merit after finishing tied ninth at the Dutch Ladies Open while Avani is placed 39th in that list after her tied 19th finish at the same event. Hitaashee also impressed last week as she finished tied 12th in her first LET appearance this season. Tvesa will be keen to find her rhythm after she failed to make the cut at the Dutch Ladies Open. Diksha has enjoyed a great season with four Top-10 finishes. In nine starts, she has missed the cut just once and one event in Australia was cancelled. Diksha is now lying fifth and her best end-of-the-season finish on the LET Order of Merit was third in 2023. The current leader of the Order of Merit, Mimi Rhodes of England, will look to continue her winning ways as she has already won three of the seven LET events this year. The 23-year-old won her Maiden LET event just earlier this year at the Ford Women's NSW Open before stamping her authority on the field with two more wins at the Jo'burg Ladies Open and the Dutch Ladies Open. Swiss Star Chiara Tamburlini spent the last week recovering but has had a good season. She will look to continue her display of consistency at the Evian Resort Golf Club. There are a total of 15 French players who will take part in the tournament. This list of stars includes LET winners Anne-Charlotte Mora, Anne-Lise Caudal, Celine Herbin and Camille Chevalier. The Jabra Ladies Open also presents players a chance to qualify for the Majors. LET winners this year will automatically qualify for the AIG Women's Open, which is to be held at Royal Porthcawl later this year. Also one player, who finishes in the top 10 at the Jabra Ladies Open but has yet to qualify for the Amundi Evian Championship, will be able to secure their entry to the event.

Covid cases surge in Singapore and Hong Kong: Key symptoms of LF.7 and NB.1.8 variants
COVID-19 cases are rising sharply across parts of Asia, particularly in Singapore and Hong Kong. The latest surge is being driven by two fast-spreading subvariants—LF.7 and NB.1.8—both of which are descendants of the JN.1 lineage, itself a subvariant of the Omicron strain. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified JN.1 as a 'variant of interest' due to its rapid transmission, though it has not been labeled a 'variant of concern.' Its descendants, LF.7 and NB.1.8, are now under global observation. What's driving the spike? The sharp increase in cases is primarily linked to increased transmissibility of these subvariants and waning immunity in the population. According to Singapore's Ministry of Health, 'At present, LF.7 and NB.1.8 (both descendants of the JN.1 variant) are the main COVID-19 variants circulating in Singapore, together accounting for more than two-thirds of locally sequenced cases.' This shift in variant dominance has led to a 28% rise in infections in Singapore during the week ending May 3, 2025. Similarly, Hong Kong has observed a significant increase in cases, with COVID-19 test positivity jumping from 6.21% to 13.66% over a four-week period, indicating rapid spread of these variants. Experts say the rise is also influenced by reduced protection from prior infections or vaccinations, increased social mixing, and relaxed preventive behavior. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Médicos alertam: se você tem varizes, faça isso todos os dias Fim das Varizes Undo Seasonal effects may also play a role in amplifying transmission during certain periods. Symptoms So far, the symptoms linked to LF.7 and NB.1.8 remain consistent with other Omicron subvariants. These include: Sore throat Mild cough Fatigue Fever Health authorities across the region report that most cases remain mild, especially among vaccinated individuals. However, older adults and those with underlying health conditions remain more vulnerable to complications. An official from India, which is currently monitoring 257 cases, noted: 'As per the preliminary information available, the cases are mostly mild, not associated with unusual severity or mortality.' As per Dr. Diksha Goyal, Senior Consultant at Internal Medicine Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram, the symptoms of LF.7 include- "fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, and occasionally gastrointestinal symptoms in the form of nausea or vomiting." Further, she added, "Respiratory symptoms of cough and dyspnea may be present in certain instances. The severity can also depend on the immunity and conditions of the patient. " "NB.1.8 will usually have mild to moderately severe respiratory symptoms such as sore throat, rhinitis, cough, and mild fever intermittently. Some will also present with fatigue, muscular aches, or a mild headache," said Dr Diksha. She also explained that while the symptoms are similar to a typical common cold but "can have variable severity by age, immunity, and comorbidities." Vaccine protection and WHO classification Vaccines—particularly booster doses designed against Omicron—continue to offer strong protection against severe disease and death. However, preliminary data suggests LF.7 and NB.1.8 may partially reduce the efficacy of existing vaccines, leading to more breakthrough infections. This has prompted health experts to consider updating vaccine formulations in the months ahead. As of May 2025, the WHO has not classified LF.7 or NB.1.8 as Variants of Concern (VOC) or Variants of Interest (VOI). Instead, they are designated as Variants Under Monitoring (VUM). This status indicates that, while they do not currently pose a global health threat, they are being closely observed for their potential to affect transmission dynamics or vaccine effectiveness.
