100% I.D. scan begins June 1 on Fort Benning
FORT BENNING () — June 1st, gates on Fort Benning will no longer have self-scan lanes as the military installation will enforce the 100% I.D. scan. 'It means that every single person who is coming through an access control point. We will be able to positively identify them,' says Fort Benning Access Control Chief Matthew Dillion. Dillion tells WRBL this differs from the Trusted Traveler Program. He says, 'a Trusted Traveler could come through, scan their I.D. and they were vouching for the people that were in their vehicle. Now when they come through, they're still the trusted traveler. There's no change to that. The only difference is where a trusted traveler used to vouch for everybody. Now we're at 100% I.D. and everybody.' The 100% scan is usually implemented only at night Dillion says. Starting Sunday, Fort Benning's Commander Major General Colin Tooley will require 100% I.D. checks at all gates 24/7. Dillion says, there are other ways to get on the army post without scanning your I.D. at the gate. 'The first way is to go to a visitor control center,' Dillion explains. 'We're one of the few installations that has one that's open 24 hours… On the other side, you can go online. We have an online system where you can actually process for a pass specifically to their event.' Dillion says these processes allow for security to conduct background checks on every person coming in. Wednesday through Fridays Fort Benning see's higher levels of traffic due to family days and graduations Dillion says. Prior to getting to the access gate, Dillion encourages having your ID ready for a quick and smooth entry onto the military post. He says people who have been previously denied or barred, have active warrants and other things of that nature will be denied access. For those who have yet to get their Real I.D., Dillion says additional documentation may be needed to gain access. He says this can be handled in the lane or be sent to the visitor control center. Dillion says once it's taken care, it will no longer be an issue the next time you get checked at the checkpoint. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 'I Remember Mama' campaign seeks to celebrate all for Mother's Day
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Easter is behind us, and next up is Mother's Day. A local organization asks you to help them make sure no mom is forgotten. Volunteers of America has an annual campaign called 'I Remember Mama' now running for more than 35 years. The Upstate New York chapter is right now accepting donations to share flowers, gifts, and thoughtful cards with local moms who may have no one to honor them. The president and CEO stopped by the News 8 at Sunrise studio explaining that women so often spend all their lives caring for others, so this is a chance to repay their love and hard work. 'We know that there's many women in our community that won't feel so special, because maybe the people in their lives are not here to acknowledge them—whether it's because they've been separated from some of those that love them or they've just outlived them. So we want to make sure they feel acknowledged and show them how important they are,' explains Dr. Junior Dillion. The VOA hopes to make at least 200 gift packages this year for the women in the program's low-income housing as well as across the Greater Rochester region. Dillion says every $45 received equals one delivery. The deadline to donate is May 3 so the gifts arrive in time for Mother's Day. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Joe Rogan Mocks Katy Perry And All-Women Blue Origin Space Flight In Misogyny-Inflected Rant
Joe Rogan has joined in on the internet's mockery of Katy Perry and the all-women Blue Origin flight that recently traveled to space aboard one of Jeff Bezos' rockets. 'It was very profound. I don't know if you've seen Katy Perry talk about it, but she's basically a guru now,' Rogan sarcastically told his guest, Tim Dillion, during Saturday's episode of his podcast 'The Joe Rogan Experience.' 'Let's not minimize this,' Rogan added after comedian Dillon noted that the crew was 'up there' for a mere '10 minutes' simply 'floating.' 'Let's celebrate female astronauts,' Rogan teased before launching into a rant about the qualifications male astronauts must reach before hitting space. 'Because a lot of men astronauts have to go to school. They have to learn how to be a pilot first, then they have to join the Air Force or the Navy, and then they get appointed by NASA and then they go to space,' he continued. Dillion then interjected, telling Rogan, 'There has been female astronauts…I think there was a bitch stuck on a space station for a few months, that's terribly more impressive.' Dillion was apparently referencing NASA astronaut Suni Williams who was unexpectedly stranded alongside fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore on the International Space Station for months due to technical issues with Boeing's Starliner spacecraft. The pair eventually returned home in Elon Musk's SpaceX Dragon capsule on March 18. 'Well, for now. Let's not minimize this,' Rogan sarcastically reiterated. 'Let's not minimize the sacrifice they've made for a great nation, for the world, in fact. They're profoundly different now.' 'Well, it's inspiring,' Dillon replied, to which Rogan added, 'That's what I'm saying. After Dillion pointed out that many people think 'they faked' the flight, Rogan clarified what might be causing the 'confusion' among skeptics. 'I think the confusion is that they essentially got to the threshold of space. They did not get like way out there where reentry is very traumatic,' Rogan said elsewhere in the episode. 'How great is it that they just get called astronauts?' he later added. While Rogan may have been roasting Perry and the others, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that the crew did not 'meet the FAA astronaut criteria.' 'The crew who flew to space this week on an automated flight by Blue Origin were brave and glam, but you cannot identify as an astronaut,' Duffy wrote on April 17. 'They do not meet the FAA astronaut criteria.' Last week, Bezos' company Blue Origin made headlines for launching flight NS-31 with an all-female flight crew that included the likes of broadcast journalist Gayle King, Bezos's fiancée Lauren Sánchez, pop star Perry and others, for a less than 11-minute voyage. The flight was met with backlash, particularly aimed at Perry, after social media users poked fun at the singer for her extravagant reaction to returning to earth after such a short flight. Devin Dillon was only called up to the World of Inquiry varsity basketball team in January. The eighth grader has turned into a big time addition. He poured in 21 points in the state qualifier last week, including six three pointers. Dillion then followed with 15 more in the state quarterfinals powering the Griffins to a state final four berth and earning the top spot in this week's Section Five Best. Section Five's boys composite bowling team also makes the list this week after winning a state championship over the weekend. Dallis Jones set a new Aquinas school record with a 7.7 second 60 meter dash competing in the New Balance national championship. Ne'Sean Fowlks was Mr. Clutch for Athena with a game tying three in the Class AA state qualifier and then blocking a half court heave to preserve a one point state quarters victory.
