FIITJEE closure: ED conducts raids at 8 locations in Delhi NCR after FIRs in Delhi and Noida

FIITJEE closure: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday carried out raids at 8 locations in Delhi-NCR in connection with the FIITJEE probe. The ED probe stems from First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by Delhi and Noida police, officials said, adding Delhi, Noida and Gurugram locations, comprising those of the promoters of the coaching institute, are being searched. This comes amid allegations of numerous FIITJEE centres across the country abruptly closing down between December 2024 and January 2025 without any notice. The parents have alleged that they had made advance payments worth lakhs for the entire year and FIITJEE centres neither provided service or refund, they added. The FIITJEE management had claimed that online classes will begin immediately, and classroom programs will start starting in May. The coaching institute sent these emails to all students on April 1st and 3rd. Some internal individuals and external competitors conspired to damage their centers and FIITJEE's credibility, email read. While they succeeded temporarily, FIITJEE stated that these efforts will ultimately fail (literally "they will have to eat dust/face defeat"), as the institute has resumed coaching for IIT admission with renewed energy and preparation. Noida Police had frozen ₹ 11.11 crore from 12 bank accounts linked to FIITJEE Coaching Institute's founder Dinesh Goyal in February, it said. An FIR was registered in this regard at the Knowledge Park police station under sections 318 (4) and 316 (2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). 'The Knowledge Park police and the cyber crime team have found out that the PAN card of Dinesh Goyal, the founder of FIITJEE, is linked with 172 current accounts and 12 saving accounts. Police have frozen ₹ 11.11 crore from the 12 bank accounts of FIITJEE and further investigation is on," PTI had quoted Ashok Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Greater Noida, as saying.

ED Raids Multiple Locations Linked To FIITJEE Over Money Laundering Suspicions

Last Updated: The Enforcement Directorate raided over 10 FIITJEE locations in Delhi-NCR including founder DK Goyal's residence. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted searches at over 10 locations connected to coaching institute FIITJEE across Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram. The raids were also conducted at the residence of FIITJEE's founder DK Goyal. The crackdown comes amid allegations that FIITJEE made unlawful gains of Rs 12 crore through the abrupt shutdown of several of its centers. The ED suspects possible money laundering in connection with the alleged profits. Searches are currently underway as part of the ongoing investigation. The coaching giant FIITJEE has been under the scanner since January 2025, following the abrupt closure of multiple centres in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida—a move that left hundreds of students in limbo just weeks ahead of crucial exams. In response, authorities registered criminal cases against FIITJEE centre owner Dinesh Goyal and eight others, citing allegations of financial misconduct, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy. On January 25, FIITJEE acknowledged the closure of several centres across Delhi-NCR, attributing the shutdowns to alleged 'mismanagement and desertion" by its managing partners. The institute also hinted at a corporate sabotage angle, announcing its intention to pursue legal action against rival institutes for poaching faculty members. The controversy deepened in February, when Noida Police froze over 300 bank accounts linked to FIITJEE and seized Rs 60 lakh in cash, intensifying the scrutiny around the institute's financial practices.

ED conducts searches at multiple locations in Delhi-NCR in money laundering case against FIITJEE

Multiple teams of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are conducting raids in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) as part of its money laundering investigation against coaching institute FIITJEE, a coaching institute chain that prepares students for competitive exams, which recently shut its centres abruptly. The case stems from the First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by Noida and Delhi Police on the complaints of some parents, who said in January that the FIITJEE centres suddenly shut, leaving their children in the lurch. The parents alleged they deposited lakhs of rupees as fee, but they got no service or refund. 'The action is being undertaken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Locations in Delhi and neighbouring Noida and Gurugram, including those of the promoters of the coaching institute, are being searched,' an RD official said. Last month, the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) lodged a cheating case against FIITJEE, after receiving 190 complaints from parents of students who studied at its Preet Vihar centre in East Delhi, which was shut down in mid-January. The FIR has been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as the complaints had started coming in since 2022. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new criminal code of India, came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing IPC. 'The EOW had started a probe after it received around 35 complaints in February, which has now gone up to 190. These complaints were initially filed with the local police in East Delhi and later forwarded to the EOW, as the amount was suspected to be big and needed a thorough investigation,' the officer said. In January, it came to light that FIITJEE had shut down several centres across Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, leaving students and parents in limbo. The institute, which has 73 study centres across the country, has been facing a financial crisis, with staff at many branches resigning en masse. So far, the police in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Bhopal have lodged multiple FIRs against FIITJEE. In February, the Greater Noida police seized over Rs 11.11 crore from 12 bank accounts linked to FIITJEE's founder Dinesh Goyal as part of its probe in a similar cheating case, said officers.
