Toxic environment created by communalism resulted in series of deaths in DK, says Dinesh Gundurao
Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundurao, who is also in charge of Dakshina Kannada district, has opined that the toxic atmosphere created due to communalism was the reason for a series of deaths in that district.
Speaking to press persons in Shivamogga on Wednesday, Dinesh Gundurao said two persons were attacked on Tuesday, and one died, while another was under treatment. It was a painful incident. The police had gathered information about the perpetrators of the crime. They would be arrested soon, he said.
Such incidents tarnish the image of Dakshina Kannada district and the State as well. Communal hatred and revenge were the reasons for the series of murders in the district. 'This is the result of the toxic atmosphere created by communalism. Such incidents should not have happened', he stated.
The police, the minister said, would act as per the law. Earlier, Suhas Shetty, a rowdy-sheeter, who was accused in two murder cases, was murdered. The police arrested all those who were involved in the crime. Similarly, they will probe the recent incident and arrest those involved', he said.
He also pointed out that certain forces had been instigating violence in the district in the name of Hindutva. They believed that they had the support of Hindutva, no matter what crime they committed. 'If such incidents continue, nobody will come forward to invest in the district', he opined.
In answer to this question, Mr. Gundurao said the government has decided to set up an anti-communal task force in the district.
Further on COVID-19, the minister said there was no need for the public to panic. However, people should be careful. 'We have instructed school teachers to test those students who had symptoms,' he added.
