Saudi Arabia Condemns Israeli Gunfire on Diplomatic Delegation Visiting Jenin

Saudi Arabia strongly denounced the gunfire attack carried out by Israeli forces on a diplomatic delegation of Arab and foreign representatives in the occupied West Bank, the Saudi Press agency reported on Wednesday. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing the Kingdom's condemnation of Israeli gunfire attack on the delegation that included ambassadors and representatives of Arab and foreign countries during their visit to Jenin Camp in the occupied West Bank. The Kingdom called on the international community — particularly the permanent members of the UN Security Council — to immediately put an end to Israeli violations against civilians, diplomatic missions, and humanitarian organizations operating in the occupied Palestinian territories. It also reiterated its call for the activation of international accountability mechanisms to counter Israel's ongoing crimes and its repeated violations of international and humanitarian laws. Media reports said that a group of foreign diplomats from numerous countries, including France and Italy, had to flee for cover during a visit to Jenin after Israeli troops allegedly fired in the air to warn them away.

Saudi Arabia ‘strongly condemns' Israel shooting toward diplomatic delegation

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia condemned and denounced 'in the strongest terms' Israeli soldiers shooting toward a diplomatic delegation visiting the occupied West Bank on Wednesday. The Kingdom called on the international community, especially the permanent members of the Security Council, to 'immediately stop Israeli violations against civilians, diplomatic missions and relief organizations operating in the occupied Palestinian territories,' the foreign ministry said. Saudi Arabia demands Israel is held accountable under international law for its ongoing crimes under the occupation, the ministry said. The delegation, which included diplomats from European countries, Turkey, and Egypt, was visiting near Jenin when Israeli soldiers fired shots, sending the officials rushing for cover. The Palestinian foreign ministry said Israel had "deliberately targeted by live fire an accredited diplomatic delegation.' The incident sparked anger in Europe with a number of governments condemning the shooting, which caused no injuries. Italy, France and Sweden were among those to summon their Israeli ambassadors. The Israeli military said soldiers fired warning shots to keep the delegation away from an unauthorized area and that the party had 'deviated from the approved route." Israel has been conducting a major military operation in Jenin and surrounding areas since January.

Israeli occupation troops fire shots as diplomats visit Jenin in West Bank

Ramallah: The Israeli occupation military fired shots near a diplomatic delegation touring the city of Jenin in the north of the occupied West Bank today, the Palestinian Authority said today. "The occupation forces opened heavy fire from inside the Jenin refugee camp to intimidate the diplomatic delegation that is conducting a field tour around the camp to witness the extent of the suffering endured by the residents of the area," it posted on X. The authority, which has civil control of the Israeli-occupied West Bank but does not have power in the besieged Gaza Strip, expressed strong criticism of the Israeli action. There were no initial reports of casualties. It was also not clear which countries were represented in the diplomatic delegation. Media reports said that the delegation had been assessing the humanitarian situation in the city's refugee camp. The Palestinian Foreign Ministry described the incident as a "blatant and serious violation of international law."

Israeli troops open fire during diplomats' tour in West Bank

JENIN, Palestinian Territories: Israeli forces fired warning shots on Wednesday (May 21) as foreign diplomats visited the occupied West Bank, the military said, apologising for the incident after the Palestinian Authority accused troops of "deliberately" shooting at the delegation. AFP footage from the scene of the incident in the West Bank city of Jenin - a frequent target of Israeli military raids - showed the delegation and accompanying journalists running for cover as shots are heard. No injuries were reported in the incident which drew prompt condemnation from Spain and Italy. The Palestinian foreign ministry condemned "the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces, which deliberately targeted by live fire an accredited diplomatic delegation to the State of Palestine during a field visit". The Israeli military said in a statement that "the delegation deviated from the approved route and entered an area where they were not authorised to be". It said that "soldiers operating in the area fired warning shots to distance them away", adding that it "regrets the inconvenience caused". An AFP journalist in the heard shots echo from the area of the Jenin refugee camp. A video released by the Palestinian foreign ministry showed two men in Israeli army uniform pointing guns at a group of people from behind metal gates while shots ring out. AFP was not immediately able to verify the video, but the journalist in Jenin said the footage appears to show the camp's eastern entrance. The Israeli military, which in January launched a major operation in the Jenin area to stamp out militant groups, has recently installed metal gates as seen in the video at the entrances to the camp. A European diplomat present during the visit told AFP he heard "repeated shots" coming from inside Jenin refugee camp. "We were doing a visit with the governor of Jenin to the border of the camp to see the destruction", the diplomat said. "It was the last part of the visit and suddenly we heard shots, coming from the camp. It was not like once or twice. It was like repeated shots. So at that moment, we just all started running back to the cars", the diplomat added. Ahmad al-Deek, political advisor for the Palestinian foreign ministry, told AFP he was leading the delegation. "We condemn this reckless act by the Israeli army, especially at a time when it had given the diplomatic delegation an impression of the life the Palestinian people are living", he said. Since Israel launched its large-scale military operation in the northern West Bank, the Jenin refugee camp has emptied of its inhabitants and taken over by troops. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said that by Mar 31, the operation had displaced some 16,000 people in Jenin.
