Bowler wins bronze medal at nationals
Sables player and Discovery Bowling Club member Devin de Jongh claimed a whopping bronze medal at the National Bowls Championships Ladies Singles that took place on May 11.
Devin's bowling journey began in 2022 after she was inspired by her dad, and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a Sables player and participating in her first provincial tournament in 2023.
Speaking to the Roodepoort Record, Devin mentioned that she enjoys playing in the open-side category, competing alongside Protea players.
'I'm thrilled with my results and determined to reach the world championships one day and become a Protea player,' Devin said.
In addition to her bronze medal in the ladies' singles, Devin also received a bronze medal at the Ladies National U30 Ladies Masters tournament that took place in February in Pretoria.
Sables president Brian Oxley praised Devin and her fellow three Sables players, saying,
'Well done to you three ladies for giving Sables the pride to prove that bowls is alive in our district.'
