Deerfield school district issues privacy alert amid fake survey sent to parents
DEERFIELD, Ill. (WGN) — A message posted to Deerfield Public School District 109's website warns parents to be cautious about responding to an 'unauthorized survey' sent to members of the community.
The district said the messages sent both via email and text messaging request the recipient to respond to a survey about the district.
'This survey is not from District 109,' the alert on said.
The district said it does not know who sent the message or why.
Scammers often send social engineering messages to get the recipient to divulge personal or confidential information. Another recent example involves messages sent to I-PASS customers.
Those who received the message may consider filing a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.
