Three Arrested In Connection With Mangaluru's Abdul Rahiman Murder Case

Last Updated: On May 27, Abdul Rahiman was killed and his brother, Kalandar Shafi, suffered severe injuries after a group of miscreants attacked them with a sword in Mangaluru. The Dakshina Kannada District Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Abdul Rahiman in Bantwal, Mangaluru, police officials said on Thursday. The arrested individuals have been identified as 21-year-old Deepak, 21-year-old Pruthviraj and 19-year old Chintan, news agency ANI reported citing the police. On May 27, Abdul Rahiman was killed and his brother, Kalandar Shafi, suffered severe injuries after a group of miscreants attacked them with a sword in Ira Kodi, Kuriyala village, Bantwal Rural Police Station limits. The incident took place when the deceased, a truck driver, and his brother were unloading gravel when two assailants on a motorcycle attacked them with a sword. Both of them were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment where Rahiman succumbed to his wounds, while his brother is undergoing treatment. The Bantwal Rural Police Station had registered a case under sections 191(1), 191(2), 191(3), 118(1), 118(2), 109, and 103 of the 190 BNS 2023. Earlier today, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reviewed the law and order situation in the city in the wake of the incident. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Bantwal till May 30 as a precautionary measure. The Chief Minister said that the efforts were underway to restore communal harmony in the region. 'There should not be any hatred between Hindus and Muslims. We are committed to ensuring peace and harmony in Dakshina Kannada," he said, adding that no one involved in the violence would be spared, regardless of their influence. The killing comes close on the heels of Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty's murder on May 1. Suhas Shetty, a known rowdy sheeter and Hindutva activist, was murdered by an unidentified group earlier this month within the Bajpe police station limits in Mangaluru. He was attacked at around 8:30 pm while he was traveling with five of his associates when their vehicle was intercepted near Kinnipadavu Cross by the attackers. The twin killings in the district, first of Suhas Shetty and now Abdul Rahiman, have raised concerns about retaliatory violence and growing polarisation in the coastal district. Ropar police arrest 5, including conspirator woman, in 40 gram gold snatching case

Representative image ROPAR: Ropar Police have arrested five persons, including a woman who allegedly masterminded a gold snatching incident involving her own relative. The robbery, which occurred in a residential area, led to the theft of four gold bangles weighing 40 grams. Police recovered the stolen gold and arrested all but one accused, who remains absconding. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ropar, Gulneet Singh Khurana, informed that the incident took place at 11.15 am on Friday in Ranjit Avenue, Ropar. Victim Pragati Jain was reportedly threatened with a sharp weapon by three men, who then fled after snatching her gold bangles. Shockingly, the key conspirator in the case has been identified as Shilpa Jain, a relative of the victim. The police revealed that Shilpa and Pragati's husbands are cousins. Shilpa, who resides in Jain Mahalla, Ropar, hatched the plot to rob Pragati by involving her boyfriend Tony, an auto driver, and his associate Ravi Kumar. The two then hired three men to execute the robbery. Police investigation found that Shilpa came into contact with Tony a few years ago when she was working as a receptionist in a hotel. Shilpa's husband, a local shopkeeper, was reportedly unaware of her involvement in the crime. The couple has two minor children. SSP Khurana stated that the police registered a case under Sections 332(C), 309(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station City Ropar. Multiple teams from the District Police and CIA were formed to investigate. Based on CCTV footage analysis and intelligence leads, police arrested Navjot Singh and Akashdeep Singh alias Pintu hailing from Phool Kalan village in Ropar, and Sukhwinder Singh alias Deepu hailing from Asron village of SBS Nagar. During interrogation, the three confessed that accused Ravi Kumar and Tony had promised them Rs 1 lakh to snatch the gold from a woman known to them. Following this, Ravi Kumar and Shilpa Jain were also arrested. However, Tony remains absconding, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him. SSP Khurana confirmed that the police have recovered the four stolen gold bangles and two motorcycles used in the crime. The accused were produced in court to seek police remand, with expectations of uncovering more links to past thefts and robberies.
