Assessment reveals holes in security of public sector facilities of Manmad town

Nashik: Security agencies have identified critical vulnerabilities in the perimeter walls and security infrastructure of public sector facilities in Manmad town of Nandgaon taluka, Nashik district. Manmad has several petroleum storage and distribution centres of three oil companies, Food Corporation India's storage facility and many other establishments. A comprehensive security assessment was undertaken by multiple agencies, comprising the State Intelligence Department, District Special Branch, local police, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The team evaluated various govt installations at Manmad junction and is drafting recommendations for necessary security enhancements. Local police sources confirmed that the inspection covered petroleum facilities involved in fuel storage, tanker loading operations (roadways and railways), and gas bottling units. The assessment also included the Food Corporation of India premises and the Central Railway's major junction station. The evaluation revealed security deficiencies that will be documented and reported to relevant authorities for prompt remedial action. The assessment highlighted deteriorated boundary walls with breaches that remained unrepaired or were provisionally covered with metal sheets. The inspection teams also found inadequate surveillance by security personnel at crucial points, despite the availability of designated watch towers. "The lack of patrolling by the staff, leaving open spaces within the premises of the establishments unattended, unguarded boundary walls in remote areas, and many more issues have been listed in the report. A report will be filed with the state and central govt," the officer said. "The security checks, during which the teams inspected these establishments, revealed several issues.
