Signalman killed after being run over by tipper lorry
KUALA LANGAT: A construction site worker was killed after being run over by a tipper lorry in Tanjung Dua Belas here on Thursday.
The Selangor Department of Occupational Safety and Health said the incident occurred at 3.55pm and involved a male worker.
The department said a team of investigating officers was dispatched to the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation.
"The accident occurred during land reclamation works.
"The victim was working as a banksman or signalman, responsible for guiding the tipper lorry driver while reversing to unload soil.
"It is believed the worker was standing in the lorry's blind spot when it reversed, causing him to fall and be run over by the vehicle's tyres.
"The victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene," it said in a statement last night.
It said a Disturbance Prohibition Order had been issued to the employer, instructing an immediate halt to all land reclamation activities at the construction site.
The department said a Prohibition Notice was also issued for failing to ensure a safe working environment during the landfilling operation, and for the lack of traffic management for lorry movements.
"Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident and identify those responsible, under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994," it said.
