Prominent Big Ten basketball analyst breaks down Michigan State PG commit Divine Ugochukwu Michigan State basketball added a reserve point guard via the transfer portal last week, and that received generally positive reviews from a prominent Big Ten basketball analyst. Divine Ugochukwu committed to Michigan State via the transfer portal last week that received mix reviews from the Spartans' fanbase. But Big Ten basketball analyst Ant Wright shared a different (more positive) point of view in a recent transfer portal breakdown video he released this video. Wright noted that Ugochukwu showed a lot of positives a true freshman last year at Miami (FL), and believes the Spartans' coaching staff can help him further develop his game next year. During his freshman season at Miami (FL), Ugochukwu played in 28 games, including 16 starts, and averaged 20.2 minutes per game. He averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals this past season. He shot an efficient 48.3% from the field, including a 61% 2-point field goal percentage, but struggled from behind the arc with a 17.6% 3-point field goal percentage. Michigan State basketball lands backup point guard transfer Divine Ugochukwu from Miami

Michigan State basketball has made another addition to the roster via the transfer portal. The Spartans have landed their backup point guard, getting Miami (FL) transfer Divine Ugochukwu to commit on Sunday. Ugochukwu was a 3-star recruit that went to Miami out of Sugar Land, Texas, in the 2024 recruiting class. In his true freshman season with the Hurricanes, Ugochukwu was thrusted into a bigger role than was expected, coming into the season as a backup - but then being thrusted into a starting role after injuries plagued the Miami season. Advertisement The new Spartan played in 28 games, making 16 starts, and played in 20.2 minutes per game. He averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He shot an efficient 48.3% from the field, including a 61% 2-point field goal percentage and a 50.9% effective FG%. One area of work he will need is raising his 17.6% 3-point field goal percentage. All in all, the Spartans filled a massive void on their roster, gaining another ball handler and another player that can play the point guard position. He will have three years of eligibility remaining. The Spartans beat out Texas Tech and USC to earn the commitment from Ugochukwu. Michigan State will still be perusing the market for an additional player, most likely from the European side of things, if there is a fit that the staff likes and wants to make. Miami (FL) transfer Divine Ugochukwu announced his commitment to Michigan State on Sunday afternoon. He had recently visited Michigan State and had long been connected with the Spartans so the commitment on Sunday should have came as no surprise. The Spartans beat out reported finalists Texas Tech and USC for Ugochukwu's commitment. Advertisement During his freshman season at Miami (FL), Ugochukwu played in 28 games, including 16 starts, and averaged 20.2 minutes per game. The addition of Ugochukwu fills a need at point guard as Michigan State was in the market for another ball handler. Former Miami Guard Divine Ugochukwu Announces Transfer Portal Decision

Former Miami Hurricanes guard Divine Ugochukwu committed to Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans out of the transfer portal on Sunday according to a report from Sam Kayser of League Ready. Ugochukwu becomes the fifth former Cane to land at a power conference program out of the portal, joining Nijel Pack (Oklahoma), Jalil Bethea (Alabama), AJ Staton-McCray (Seton Hall), and Austin Swartz (Creighton). Advertisement Xander Alarie (Northeastern) is the other Miami transfer to commit, while Paul Djobet and Kiree Huie remain uncommitted as of this writing. Ugochukwu appeared in 28 games as a true freshman last year for Miami, starting 16 contests and averaging 5.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. Despite relatively pedestrian numbers, the 6'3 guard was highly sought after in the transfer portal thanks to his considerable upside. Ugochukwu displayed high levels of efficiency, shooting 61% on two point attempts, and his playmaking and facilitation skills should fit quite nicely in coach Izzo's offense. Advertisement Miami has been hard at work rebuilding a brand new roster under first year head coach Jai Lucas, which includes transfer additions Tre Donaldson (Michigan), Malik Reneau (Indiana), Tru Washington (New Mexico), Ernest Udeh (TCU), Marcus Allen (Missouri) and Jordyn Kee (Georgia). The team has also added a trio of incoming freshmen including Shelton Henderson, a four-star small forward who was committed to Duke before Lucas left the Blue Devils for Miami. Four-star guard Dante Allen and Slovakian forward Timotej Malovec round out the newcomers for the 'Canes at this point in the offseason.
