Lakeview's run ends in the state semifinals
AKRON, Ohio (WKBN) – Hillsboro topped Lakeview 7-1 in the Division IV Softball State Semifinals at Akron's Firestone Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs, who were making their first appearance in the state final four, took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Kennedy Bartlett scored on a wild pitch.
Hillsboro answered back in the bottom of the fourth, when Addley Miller tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI groundout.
Chloe Roberts gave Hillsboro its first lead at 2-1 with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.
Isabelle Brunck followed that up with an RBI single of her own, giving the Indians a 3-1 lead.
Hillsboro increased the lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning, when Addie Huff delivered an RBI single down the right-field line.
The Indians plated three more runs in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk and a 2-run single by Brunck.
Hillsboro pitcher Camryn Spruell picked up the victory in the circle, pitching a complete game with 13 strikeouts. The Ball State commit allowed just one unearned run on four hits in the win.
Lakeview's season comes to an end with a record of 22-5.
Hillsboro improves to 23-3 overall. The Indians advance to face Kenton Ridge 31-0 in the Division IV State Final on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Akron's Firestone Stadium.
