Iraq sets up modern electrical systems factory in Babil
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, launched on Wednesday the construction works of the Diwan Factory project, which specializes in producing modern electrical systems in the central Iraqi province of Babil.
The new factory, which will use the latest technologies, will manufacture transformers, electrical cables, and smart meters, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
The project marks a new milestone in the government's effective collaboration with the private sector. It will help localize the electrical industry, reduce dependency on imports, and enhance the country's energy sector through industries that incorporate smart technologies.
Al-Sudani noted that the government is eager to offer all types of assistance to develop the country's industrial sector and build national industry in all areas.
With a $300 million budget, the Diwan Factory project is expected to be one of Iraq's most important strategic private-sector initiatives. It will serve as a significant platform for renewable energy initiatives while covering the supply chain for national grids.
