Minors steal bikes to take girlfriends on dates
Nagpur: Pachpaoli police have apprehended a minor, who had four girlfriends, along with four others for their involvement in a string of bike thefts and burglaries across the city.
The minors stole bikes to take their girlfriends on dates.
The arrests on Thursday led to the detection of 11 cases, including nine bike thefts and two burglaries in rural Khaparkheda area. The group, which includes one adult, was nabbed following a tip-off, with the police recovering nine stolen two-wheelers.
The minor, who was in the limelight for his multiple romantic relationships, allegedly stole bikes primarily to impress his girlfriends.
According to police sources, the juveniles used the stolen vehicles for joyrides and to take their girlfriends on dates, abandoning the bikes once the fuel ran out.
The group also created Instagram reels featuring the stolen bikes to flaunt their exploits and attract attention of girls. These social media posts played a key role in their scheme to build a flashy image.
The Pachpaoli police, led by senior inspector Baburao Raut and head constable Dnyaneshwar Bhoge, acted on credible intelligence to trap the culprits.

The minors' modus operandi involved targeting unsecured two-wheelers, using them for short-term thrills, and discarding them after use.
The two burglaries in Khaparkheda further highlighted their audacity, though police efforts have now put an end to their activities. This case underscores the growing issue of juvenile delinquency in Nagpur, with social media acting as a catalyst for such crimes, said Raut.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine if more cases are linked to the group.
