Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain actor Shubhangi Atre's ex-husband Piyush Poorey dies after long battle with liver cirrhosis: ‘Give me some time'

Television actor Shubhangi Atre, known for her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, is grieving the death of her ex-husband Piyush Poorey. According to The Times of India, Piyush passed away on Saturday after battling liver cirrhosis for a prolonged period. Shubhangi confirmed her ex-husband's death to the portal and said, 'Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this.' Shubhangi and Piyush were married for 22 years. They tied the knot in 2003, but eventually parted ways and were granted a divorce in February this year. They also have a daughter, Ashi, who was born in 2006. The couple had stopped living together a year before they were officially granted a divorce. A source told the website that while Shubhangi was not on talking terms with Piyush, she is mourning his death. 'She is mourning. She resumed shooting for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain on Sunday,' the source added. Shubhangi had spoken about her divorce in the past and how it took an emotional toll on her. In a conversation with Bombay Times, she called the divorce 'painful' and clarified that they parted ways because of 'irreconcilable differences' that had developed in their relationship. She described coming out of the marriage as 'peaceful'. She said, 'I feel a sense of peace, as if a heavy burden has been lifted.' Shubhangi had also insisted that after her marriage ended, her sole focus was to provide for her daughter and give her a secure environment. Shubhangi Atre began her acting career on television with Ektaa Kapoor's Kasautii Zindagii Kay. She then went on to play the lead in another of Ektaa's shows, Kasturi. Over the years, she has starred in various other projects, including Do Hanson Ka Jodaa, Havan, and Chidiya Ghar, but her most noticeable work remains in one of the longest-running shows on Indian television – Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain.
