UHC doctor awarded the 2025 Mountaineer of Honor Award
BRIDGEPORT, (WBOY) — Hundreds of people came out to the Pete Dye Golf Club on Tuesday to honor Dr. Kelly Nelson, as he became the third Mountaineer of Honor Award recipient.
The award, presented by the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties, recognizes a West Virginian who has shown 'extraordinary' commitment to the betterment of the north central West Virginia community.

Nelson is a primary care provider at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center and is the founder and president of the Medbrook Children's Charity, which over 25 years has raised more than $2 million for local underprivileged children.
'Very humbling. I'm not a Mountaineer by birth. I'm a Mountaineer by choice, and to be recognized by the community that's done so much for me, so much for the charity I run, is just absolutely amazing,' Nelson said.
Nelson and Jaclyn Rominger, the charity board vice president, said the charity has been arranged so it can continue on in perpetuity.
