DC man says armed suspects tried to steal his car with daughter, granddaughter inside

The Brief A D.C. grandfather says he was held at gunpoint by two men during an attempted carjacking. He says the men tried to steal his car, while his daughter and granddaughter were still inside it. D.C. police are continuing their search for the two suspects. WASHINGTON - A D.C. grandfather tells FOX 5 he's still feeling shocked and upset after two men armed with a gun tried to carjack him in the Chevy Chase neighborhood Monday night. Malcolm Jordan, 51, says he was at a Marshall's in the 5300 block of Wisconsin Avenue around 7 p.m. when a dark-colored Dodge Hellcat pulled up next to his Audi SUV, where his 7-year-old granddaughter and 8-year-old daughter were seated. He says one of the suspects got out of the Hellcat and confronted Jordan while the other remained in the car, pointing a gun at him. The man then jumped into Jordan's car and attempted to steal it using a USB device, but according to Jordan, it didn't work. The suspect got out of Jordan's car and the two men drove off in the Hellcat, leaving the grandfather and young girls shaken. "t's an inconvenience because I had my daughter and granddaughter with me. It gives them nightmares. I don't want them to have to go through that as well," Jordan said. D.C. police are urging anyone with information to contact them. The Source Metropolitan Police Department, FOX 5 reporting

Dodge Hellcat Driver Street Races With Child Passenger

Read the full story on The Auto Wire A Dodge Hellcat driver caught street racing in Florida was found to have an eight-year-old child passenger. We see stories like this far too often and it always blows our to WPEC, 23-year-old Juliette Leon was clocked going 117 mph in a 2023 Dodge Charger Hellcat on Southwest Gatlin Boulevard in Port St. Lucie. That's about 70 mph over the speed limit, earning her a nice stay at the local police bed and breakfast, otherwise known as jail. Police observed the Hellat racing another vehicle along the city street. Once they clocked the speed of both cars and caught up to the Dodge, they were shocked to find the tiny passenger sitting inside. After all, who goes racing with a kid? It's so incredibly irresponsible and reckless. Street racing is as well, but to do it with a child in your car, that's just beyond ridiculous. For some reason there's a trend with women, both mothers and just caretakers, who take the children they're supposed to be protecting for wild rides as they street race and run from the cops with kiddos onboard. We see this from time to time with men, but it seems to be far more of a rarity. Why that is we don't know, but someone should really dig into the issue one day, then tell us what conclusions they've drawn. In this case, not only did Leon get a ticket for speeding, and we bet it was an expensive one, she was arrested and charged with racing on highways as well as child neglect. That last one is the sort of thing you really don't want on your record. If you want to see what your Hellcat or other performance vehicle can do, go to a track and race without a kid riding shotgun. Car Theft Ring Stole $3 Million in Chargers, Challengers & Other Muscle Cars, Cops Say

A large-scale 'chop shop' auto theft ring in California that specialized in stealing high-performance domestic vehicles, including Chevrolet Camaros and various Dodge Hellcat models, has been shut down, according to the Fresno Police Department. Seven arrests have been made so far, with 110 felony counts levied against them; two additional suspects are still being sought. Over the past six months, the Fresno Police Department's Career Criminal Auto Theft Team (CCATT) has been investigating an auto theft ring responsible for stealing powerful performance cars, the department said in a Facebook post. The investigation eventually led them to a couple of large-scale 'chop shops' located in Huntington Park and Fresno, CA. Police said they identified 75 stolen cars, including Dodge Chargers, Challengers, and Durangos, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawks, Chevrolet Camaros and unnamed Infiniti models. The vehicles are estimated to be worth more than $3 million in total. Multiple firearms, including illegal short-barrel rifles, were also found. According to a 2023 report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Dodge muscle cars were the most stolen vehicles for the 2020-2022 model years. Theft claims for the Charger Hellcat were more than 60 times more frequent than the average for all 2020-22 models, relative to their numbers on the road. The Hemi-powered Charger and Challenger models have been among the top five most stolen vehicles since 2011. The two outstanding suspects still being sought in connection to this recently busted car theft ring are 20 year-old Julian Calderon and 22 year-old Jordan Rios, police say. EV Dodge Charger Races Tesla Model Y

Read the full story on Backfire News Several years ago, people were marveling over a race that showed a Tesla Model S P100D roasting a Dodge Hellcat. The EV crowd, as well as nerds who still held a grudge about getting beat up by guys who drove muscle cars in high school, laughed mercilessly at the Mopar for losing on the dragstrip. Fast forward to 2025 and we have a Tesla Model Y crossover racing a new Dodge Charger Daytona how times change. Dodge, for better or worse, has leaped in the direction of electrification after giving the movement the big middle finger for years. As a result, many enthusiasts have mocked the new 'appliance' from Mopar as it remains uncertain how many the company will be able to sell. In other words, there's a lot riding on this drag race. If the all-electric Dodge Charger can smoke the Tesla, some EV enthusiasts might be convinced to give the American brand (that's owned by a huge European corporation) a shot. But if the Charger Daytona loses, the EV crowd will just laugh about how backwards Dodge is, chalking the loss up to that. However, win or lose, most muscle car enthusiasts are either going to mock Dodge or loathe the direction the brand has taken. They might not even watch the race, or do so while holding their nose. A few might be genuinely interested to see what the new EV can bring on the track. But we think Stellantis has misjudged just how many are truly excited for this car versus one with a fire-breathing, thumping V8. If you watch this race between the Tesla and Dodge EVs, just like you'd probably expect, it's a little bizarre. After all, both cars are virtually silent, so the saber-rattling aspect of drag races is just not a thing. Sadly, it sucks out a lot of the fun of the sport. Neither one even does a burnout. It's just sad. Don't even get us started on the elapsed times and trap speeds. My how times change, and not always for the better. Image via Wheels/YouTube
