Store that sold massive winning lottery ticket paying it forward
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — A Mega Millions ticket worth $112 million was sold at the Giant Eagle on Mayfield Road in South Euclid. But while the winner still hasn't stepped forward, the store—and the community—are already feeling like they hit the jackpot.
On Friday, the Ohio Lottery presented Giant Eagle with a $100,000 bonus check for selling the life-changing ticket in the April 18 drawing. The ticket was a manual pick, not a quick pick, and matched all five numbers and the Mega Ball.
But the celebration didn't stop there.
Wayne Dawson makes exciting announcement!
Executives from Giant Eagle announced they're donating $5,000 of that bonus to the South Euclid Lyndhurst School District. The donation will go toward supporting the district's after-school programs—and yes, Superintendent Dominick Kaple said it will involve food as a nod to the store behind the generosity.
'I really didn't think it was real at first—I thought the email offering the money was spam,' Kaple joked during the check presentation. 'But I'm thrilled. This is an investment in our kids, our teachers, and our community.'
Daniel Donovan, a senior director with Giant Eagle, called the decision to give part of the bonus away a 'no-brainer.'
'This community shows up for us, so we wanted to show up for them,' Donovan said.

The event featured balloons, big checks, and applause—but behind it all was a reminder that even a routine trip to the grocery store can end up changing lives.
As of Friday, the winner of the $112 million jackpot still hasn't come forward. If you bought a ticket in South Euclid around mid-April… it might be time to double-check those numbers.
