Soccer-Liverpool celebrate title triumph with victory parade
Soccer Football - Premier League - Liverpool Victory Parade - Liverpool, Britain - May 26, 2025 Liverpool's Mohamed Salah celebrates with the trophy and Dominik Szoboszlai, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota after winning the Premier League on the bus during the Victory parade REUTERS/Phil Noble LIVERPOOL, England (Reuters) - Liverpool's players celebrated their Premier League title success with a triumphant parade on an open-top bus through the streets of the Merseyside city in front of thousands of ecstatic fans on Monday. Liverpool sealed the title last month with four games to spare and ended the season with a sizeable 10-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. They lifted the trophy after their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday. On Monday, the players and staff waved to the crowd from an open-top bus with the words 'Ours. Again.' emblazoned on the side, as red flares were lit along the route which began from Allerton Maze and concluded at Blundell Street. Liverpool also had Calvin Harris as the DJ on their team bus, with the Scottish musician reprising his role from their parade in 2022 after their FA Cup and League Cup victories. "This year, Virgil (Van Dijk) took the reins – I guess (being) captain and all that. He was more just like, 'You're doing the bus this year!' (I said,) 'Alright, I'll be there!'," Harris said in an interview on Liverpool's website. The celebrations were markedly different from when Liverpool last won the Premier League in the 2019-20 season, with fans deprived of a parade five years ago due to COVID-19 restrictions. Dominic Szoboszlai's cheeky message to Liverpool media team on Premier League title parade bus
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai jokingly asked the to be "left alone to party" as the Hungarian star basked in the adulation of his adoring supporters during the Premier League trophy parade. The 24-year-old has been a key performer in Arne Slot's top flight championship-winning side, playing 36 times, while supplying six goals and as many assists. The former RB Leipzig star was among those given a hero's reception at Anfield as the Reds were presented with the Premier League trophy following the final game of the season. While Trent Alexander-Arnold was clapped off as he prepares to join Real Madrid, Federico Chiesa was also serenaded by the Kop after developing a cult following among the Anfield faithful. In addition, Virgil van Dijk was left emotional as supporters united to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone", while Arne Slot outlined his plans for his title defense next year. As hundreds of thousands lined the streets of the city, the Reds players got a sense of the extent of their achievements during a garland open bus parade. With their Premier League trophy in tow, Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk and co. danced along to tunes supplied by DJ Calvin Harris, while crowds of Kopites cheered along. It appears that Szoboszlai was chief among those wanting to make the most of the occasion as he looked to enjoy the carnival atmosphere in the city while on the parade bus. During an impromptu interview with LFC TV, the Hungarian midfielder brought the conversation to a close, as he looked to party long into the night alongside teammates Kostas Tsimikas and Curtis Jones, who were stood next to him. Bluntly, he spoke into the microphone, saying: "Now leave us alone we've got to party!" Coming into the event, with head coach Slot preparing for a day to remember, he had revealed what he was expecting from the parade, saying: How passionate these fans are for the club and how special it is to win something, let alone over here. "I think I could feel today that it was 35 years ago that they were part of it. It's only been five years ago that we won the league but unfortunately the fans couldn't be there. Now they were and I think everybody could see what it means for the fans to win it, and that is what makes it special and, in the end, for us as well. "Because you play football for yourself, for your family, but definitely also for the fans, and we are privileged that we can play it in front of these [fans] because these ones are special, which they're going to again show tomorrow. "Because if other teams or clubs show the trophy in their city then there are other people there, some great videos you can see – but I think this is again going to be next level." But I just said that if the whole team stays together we can improve, even with this team. "We need to improve with this team but if we are able to bring new players in then maybe you have to adapt to their qualities as well. But that will never be drastic because this is the playing style I prefer, this is the playing style the club prefers and our fans want to see as well. "So, we try to find players – if we think we need a new player – that can fit this playing style. But you always adjust towards maybe new things you can expect and you try to improve on this season."

Why is Alexis Mac Allister not in Liverpool squad vs Crystal Palace?
Alexis Mac Allister has been left out of Liverpool s's squad to play the final game of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace. The Argentine midfielder has not even made the bench for Arne Slot's side, with Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones starting in midfield at Anfield. Mac Allister missed the Reds' trip to Brighton, with the Seagulls storming back to claim all three points. And the -year-old was also limited to substitute appearances in the recent games against Chelsea and Arsenal. And Slot has opted to be careful over his condition, allowing a rest to ensure he is fully fit for the start of the 2025/26 season. Slot said: "Alexis will not play for us this season anymore. He needs rest at this moment in time to recover completely and to be ready for the start of next season, but it will be no problem for him to be back next season. "I think he played throughout the last part of the season with the Argentinian mentality he has. Never gives up, no matter what he feels, but it is not smart to play a player that has, not a big injury but something to take a risk with."

(AP Photo/Jon Super) Rebecca Lowe expects to be in the happiest place on earth on Sunday afternoon. Lowe and NBC's Premier League studio crew will be at Anfield for the final day of the season as Liverpool gets to lift the championship trophy after facing Crystal Palace. Advertisement It is Liverpool's second Premier League title but the first it will be able to celebrate in front of a sold out crowd. Liverpool won the championship in 2020, but the joy was muted as it celebrated in front of only a couple hundred fans due to COVID-19 crowd controls. 'I think Anfield might be the happiest spot to be maybe anywhere in the world,' Lowe said earlier this week. 'This is a moment for a generation. I know there are going to be men and women in their 30s and 40s who've never seen Liverpool lift the top flight of English football, and that is why this Sunday is so special for these fans.' Liverpool has had the title wrapped up since late April, making the final match day of the season mostly meaningless after the championship went down to the final minute the past couple years. Even with the three relegation spots decided, the only drama remaining is which clubs will get the final three auto qualifying spots for the Champions League. Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are separated by just three points. Advertisement Even the Crystal Palace supporters making the trip to Liverpool are going to be in a celebratory mood after it won the FA Cup last Saturday for the first time with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City. Lowe, who grew up rooting for Crystal Palace, was in London last week for the FA Cup final. Liverpool was not considered among the Premier League championship favorites going into the season. Arne Slot came in as manager after Juergen Klopp resigned after being at the club over eight years and leading them to the title in 2020. 'If anybody back in August would have picked Liverpool to win the league, they would have been laughed out of town,' said Lowe, who has hosted NBC's coverage since it started carrying the Premier League in 2013. 'Arne walks into this massive club, succeeding a massive figure and character and then pretty much walks his way to the Premier League trophy. I think it's been a combination of excellent coaching, a very good squad that he inherited and very few injuries.' Advertisement NBC Sports wraps up its 12th season by showing all 10 'Championship Sunday' matches beginning at 11 a.m. EDT. NBC has the Liverpool match while USA Network, CNBC, SYFY, Telemundo, Universo and Peacock will also have other matchups. ___ AP soccer:

Arne Slot won over Liverpool players with clever switch to target Man Utd star
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has become a Premier League champion at the first time of asking, and points to one of the Reds' first games of the season as a key moment. Slot had big shoes to fill after replacing long-serving boss Jurgen Klopp, but a subtle tweak he made in just the third game of the season had a big impact. After beginning the season with 2-0 victories over Ipswich and Brentford, Liverpool faced a big early test with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. A 3-0 win kept up their perfect start, though, while accelerating the United decline which saw Erik ten Hag sacked in Octoner. Liverpool's victory owed a lot to Slot putting Dominik Szoboszlai directly up against Casemiro. United's Brazilian midfielder had a torrid time, leaving the field at half-time, and the visitors were never in any real danger during their victory. "Just recently some Dutch media asked me: 'What was the game where you probably won the players over?' I think it was this game because we changed some small details in the way we did our build up," Slot told The Athletic "I said to them that United would be expecting Dominik Szoboszlai to play on the right. That they will have prepared all week for it, but he's going to play on the left and we're going to do this, this and this a bit different. Indeed exactly what I said happened." Liverpool were 2-0 up at the break after a Luis Diaz break and extended their advantage 10 minutes into the second half through Mohamed Salah. Slot's team lost their next league game, at home to Nottingham Forest, but then went on an unbeaten league run which lasted until April. "Did we win the game because of that reason? No. We scored two counter-attacks, maybe even three!" Slot added. "But I think it was a day when the players thought: 'Oh, what he's trying to tell us works'. And to win 3-0 at Old Trafford gave us the confidence that there was maybe something special ahead of us." Since clinching the title with a 5-1 victory over Tottenham at the end of April, Liverpool have gone three games without a win. They have a chance to go out on a high, though, with Crystal Palace visiting Anfield for the final game of the season. "It's going to be a completely different game than the one tonight," Slot told Match of the Day when asked about the finale after Monday's 3-2 loss at Brighton. "You saw Brighton want to press us high and bring the ball out from the back but if Palace play like their cup final then we'll have more possession than tonight but it's very difficult to play through them."
