Man accused of firing at deputies in Bertie County, NC
BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man has been accused of firing at deputies in Bertie County early Friday morning. Deputies with the Bertie County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Weeping Mary Road around 1:20 a.m. for a report of an individual outside of a residence with a firearm. Upon arrival, deputies identified the suspect as 34-year-old Dominique Javon Thompson. He opened fire on the deputies, striking two patrol vehicles. The suspect then fled the scene in a white 2024 Hyundai Elantra. A 'be on the lookout' notification was sent out to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in reference to the suspect and the vehicle information. Lenoir County Sheriff's Office located the Hyundai Elantra that was operated by Thompson around 9:30 a.m., but the vehicle was unoccupied. Shortly afterwards, the Kinston Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that Thompson was the passenger in. He was taken into custody without incident. Police conducted a consent search of the vehicle and seized a firearm. Thompson was subsequently taken to Bertie County for processing and served with the following charges: three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, three counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, two counts of assault on a law enforcement animal, two counts of damage to government property and possession of firearm by a felon. Thompson is currently being held at the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail on a $1,200,000 bond. Investigators are still working to determine an M.O. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Man in Bertie County in custody after discharging a firearm at a deputy
UPDATE: The Kinston Police Department has taken the suspect into custody. BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Bertie County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance with locating a man who discharged a firearm at a deputy this morning. On Friday, May 16, Dominique Javon Thompson, 34, of Lewiston/Woodville discharged a firearm at deputies on Weeping Mary Road in Lewiston/Woodville. No deputies were injured. Thompson fled the scene in a white 2024 Hyundai Elantra with a black front and rear bumper. It has N.C. license plate LCE-3119. Thompson is considered armed and dangerous, so do not approach him.
