Death in Paradise fans rumble 'crossover' plot as Humphrey Goodman to join forces with new detective
Death in Paradise has been a beloved fan favourite show for many years and viewers are now keen for a crossover with the BBC show's spin off series Beyond Paradise. Death in Paradise fans have voiced their desires about a crossover event between the beloved show and its successful spin off, Beyond Paradise. The original BBC series, which is currently led by Don Gilet as Mervin Wilson in Saint Marie, has seen fan favourite Kris Marshall return to his role as Humphrey Goodman in the new British-based spin-off that debuted in 2023. Kris, who was the lead in Death in Paradise before his exit in 2017 to focus on family life back in the UK, has sparked speculation following the conclusion of the third season of the original show. At the time of his exit, the 52-year-old said his 16-hour Caribbean commute to work was becoming too much as he missed his wife and two children in England, Wales Online reports. He said: 'It all became a juggling mission. Skyeping isn't the same and just leaves me bereft, really. Then I just had to go and drown my sorrows in the bar. It's time to move on and give someone else a chance to enjoy some sun. 'I've lived half my life in the Caribbean for the past four years. There's very few jobs where your commute to work is a five-minute walk in flip-flops.' However fans are now rooting for his character's return to the exotic setting of Saint Marie. Viewers have taken to social media platforms like Reddit to express how keen they are for this to happen. One fan exlcaimed: "I'd love to see Humphrey back on Saint Marie for a case. "I reckon there'll probably be a crossover episode with Beyond at some point. A case that spans Saint Marie and Shipton Abbot." Another suggested a festive twist as they wrote: "That'd be cool for a Christmas special, although that would mean we wouldn't get separate Christmas specials for each show." Meanwhile, a third fan speculated on the possibility of a two-part festive crossover special. Another fan pointed out the challenges that would come with this as they noted: "Humphrey and Mrs. have already made one trip back to Sainte Marie, with Selwyn gone and a completely different team. "It would need to be an awfully contorted plot line that brought H. back into the picture. "Not saying that they couldn't do it, but I suspect, for the integrity of the franchise, they would be very reluctant to." In the first series of Beyond Paradise, Humphrey returned to the Caribbean where he met his predecessor, Neville Parker (Ralf Little), and the rest of the team. Death in Paradise fans 'work out' return of beloved detective in major crossover
Death in Paradise fans are clamouring for a crossover with the show's successful spin-off, Beyond Paradise. The original series, which currently features Don Gilet as Mervin Wilson, the lead detective in Saint Marie, has seen Kris Marshall reprise his role as Humphrey Goodman in the British-based spin-off that debuted in 2023. Kris, who was the frontman of Death in Paradise until his departure in 2017 to focus on family life in the UK, handed over the reins to DI Jack Mooney, portrayed by Ardal O'Hanlon. Now, following the third season finale of Death in Paradise, viewers are eager for a crossover that would bring Marshall back to the tropical setting. Fans have taken to Reddit to express their desires, with one saying: "I'd love to see Humphrey back on Saint Marie for a case. I reckon there'll probably be a crossover episode with Beyond at some point. A case that spans Saint Marie and Shipton Abbot." Another fan pitched in, suggesting such an event would be perfect for a festive treat: "That'd be cool for a Christmas special. Although that would mean we wouldn't get separate Christmas specials for each show." A third chimed in with the idea of a two-part Christmas special crossover, while another pointed out the logistical issues. They noted, "Humphrey and Mrs have already made one trip back to Sainte Marie, and with Selwyn gone and a completely different team," reports the Express. "It would need to be an awfully contorted plot line that brought H. back into the picture. Not saying that they couldn't do it, but I suspect, for the integrity of the franchise, they would be very reluctant to." In the first series of Beyond Paradise, Humphrey returned to the Caribbean, crossing paths with his former colleague, Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little), and the current squad. Although fans are eager for a crossover, plans for Beyond Paradise's fourth season have not been announced yet. Excitement is mounting for the 15th season of Death in Paradise, which is hotly anticipated to return in the new year following its Christmas Special. Lead actor Gilet has spilled the beans that shooting kicked off in April.
