Norcross transferred out of intensive care unit

Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.) has been transferred out of an intensive care unit (ICU), according to a Tuesday press release from his office. In the press release, the New Jersey Democrat's office said his 'health has continued to improve and he was transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit' at the end of last week. The statement also said he had gone through an antibiotic course and that an infection he faced was 'successfully treated.' 'The Congressman is on his way to making a full recovery,' his office said in the statement. Last week, Norcross's office said in a press release that he had previously been admitted to an ICU at a New Jersey hospital and was said to be dealing with 'an extended recovery that could require physical rehabilitation.' Norcross was transferred to Cooper University Health Care on April 7 'following a medical incident that necessitated his hospitalization' in Raleigh, N.C., Eric Kupersmith, Cooper University Health Care chief physician executive, said in the press release from last week. 'Upon his arrival at Cooper, he was diagnosed with a gallbladder infection known as cholangitis that had progressed to sepsis,' Kupersmith wrote. Kupersmith said a gallstone was removed from Norcross, with the doctor adding later that the 66-year-old was 'responding well to treatment, but faces an extended recovery that could require physical rehabilitation.' Earlier this month, Norcross's office said he had been hospitalized but was stable in the wake of an 'emergency medical event.' 'Congressman Donald Norcross was traveling over the weekend and suffered an emergency medical event likely related to his gallbladder,' the office said in an April 7 statement. 'He was admitted to UNC Rex Hospital in North Carolina on Sunday and is in stable condition, where he is receiving exceptional medical treatment.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. New Jersey Rep. Donald Norcross in intensive care after gallbladder infection progressed to sepsis

New Jersey Rep. Donald Norcross is in intensive care after he was diagnosed with cholangitis, a gallbladder infection that later developed into sepsis, his office announced Tuesday. In a statement, Dr. Eric Kupersmith, the chief physician executive at Cooper University Health Care, said they were able to remove the gallstone. Norcross is now being treated for the infection and its complications. "Congressman Norcross is responding well to treatment, but faces an extended recovery that could require physical rehabilitation. He remains in intensive care," Kupersmith said in a statement. Norcross was taken to Cooper University Health Care in New Jersey after he was initially hospitalized in UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, earlier in April. Norcross, 66, has represented New Jersey's 1st District, which includes Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties, since 2014. Norcross, a Camden, New Jersey native, is the brother of George Norcross, a Democratic power broker who had his racketeering indictment dismissed earlier this year.

Rep. Donald Norcross hospitalized following medical emergency

April 8 (UPI) -- Rep. Donald Norcross, a Democrat from New Jersey, has been hospitalized in North Carolina after suffering a "medical event" over the weekend, his office said. Norcross was admitted to the University of North Carolina Rex Hospital on Sunday and is in stable condition, the statement from his office said. Specifics of the medical emergency were not disclosed, but his office said they believe it is related to his gallbladder. "He is currently in good spirits and wants to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at UNC Rex Hospital for all their work on his behalf during his stay," the statement said. Once he has been medically cleared to fly, which is expected to occur in the coming days, Norcross will be transferred to New Jersey's Cooper University Health Care to complete his recovery. Norcross was first elected to his congressional seat in 2014.
