Abilenians demonstrate against Trump outside city hall, joining thousands nationwide Group wanted to call attention to the policies they say could lead to a loss of rights
Just over a dozen protestors demonstrated in front of Abilene City Hall during the noon hour on Wednesday.
The group, which numbered up to 14, were joined in solidarity with larger and rowdier protests against the Trump Administration occurring at state capitols around the nation, including in Austin.
"I decided to try to put something together locally, because I know there's a lot of people that can't make it to Austin, and we all have a right to be heard," said Donna Greene, as she held her own sign. "With all the policies that Trump has tried to implement over the last three weeks and the coup that his establishment is trying to put in place, it's just important that we all get out there and let them know we don't like this, and we will not stand for this."
Response to the demonstration on Walnut St. was muted. A small number of cars drove by, as well as a few pedestrians. Most who glanced at the group kept moving.
"This goes with immigration rights, women's rights, educational rights, disability rights," Greene said. "Anything that is possibly either at risk of being taken away, or already has been taken away, we need to fight against."
