Drumline competition returns to Green Oaks High School
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy is set to bring the beat back with 'Doomsday Part 3,' its annual high school drumline competition.
The event will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Green Oaks Gymnasium. Doors open at 3 p.m., and the show kicks off at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10, with free entry for kids under five.
Percussion instructor Brian Nichols is in charge of showcasing local musical talent and fostering a positive environment for students in the community.
'So, I kind of just want to bring more to the community, and I try to host things that bring the kids out, bring out the safeness in the community, because the Cooper Road isn't a bad place, it's just what people try to make it. And the kids that go there, they're marvelous kids. They're studious kids. They can read and write just like everybody else, but I want to show them that musicianship can get them further in life than what they think,' Nichols said
The competition will feature performances from several high schools along with special guests from Mississippi. The Green Oaks drumline, Funky Destruction, will also take the stage, bringing their signature blend of funky rhythms and powerful beats.
Proceeds from ticket sales will support the school's music program, covering essential expenses such as transportation, uniforms, and equipment for the remainder of the school year and beyond.
Attendees can purchase tickets by scanning the QR code on the event flyer or online.
