1 injured in Friday night shooting on Miles Jamison Road
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating a Friday night shooting on Miles Jamison Road that left a person injured. Deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office responded to multiple reports of a shooting shortly after 11 p.m. At the scene, deputies found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The deputies provided aid to the victim before they were taken to a local hospital for further treatment. The shooting is under investigation. State troopers investigating deadly hit-and-run on I-26 in Dorchester County
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State troopers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run collision that happened on Interstate 26. Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said an unknown vehicle was traveling west when it struck a pedestrian near mile marker 185 in Dorchester County just after midnight. Restoration efforts continue at Ridgeville Fire Station 8 after electrical fire
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Dorchester County continues efforts to restore a Ridgeville fire station damaged by an electrical fire earlier this year. Crews with Dorchester County Fire Rescue responded to a fire inside the apparatus bay at Ridgeville Fire Station 8 in February. Investigators determined that an electrical shortage in the station's brush truck led to the fire. The apparatus bay and living quarters were damaged by fire and smoke, and the brush truck, used to respond to wildfires, was destroyed. The station's primary engine and tanker were not damaged and are operational. Dorchester County worked to maintain service for the Ridgeville area immediately after the fire and to expedite efforts to restore operations. In an update Tuesday afternoon, the county said its Capital Projects team is working with Dorchester County Fire Rescue and an architect to design the station's living quarters, and the county's multiple county departments are working to facilitate building mitigation and the insurance process. When the construction schedule is ready, the county will give a timeline for reestablishing the engine company from the Ridge Road station. 'Dorchester County Fire Rescue is committed to providing a high level of fire protection service to the Ridgeville community,' said Dorchester County Fire Chief Tres Atkinson. 'We have carefully restructured our fire response coverage for Ridgeville to ensure services remain strong, reliable, and ready when residents need fire protection support.' Dorchester County Councilman Peter Smith, Jr., said staff is working to ensure the facility is restored safely and efficiently. 'We remain dedicated to keeping residents protected through this process,' he said. For now, the Station 8 engine company – made up of a firefighter, engineer, and captain – is operating from the Dorchester County Fire Rescue Station 12 on Highway 61 in the Givhans area. It's located six miles from Station 8. County officials said response protocols were adjusted to ensure adequate fire protection for areas assigned to the engine company.
