Sullivan Co. Commission recognizes ‘Doshia Roller Day'
BLOOMINGDALE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The county commission honored Sullivan County church's oldest member on her 98th birthday Sunday.
Doshia Roller turned 98 and said she's been attending Vermont United Methodist Church on Bloomingdale Pike for as long as she can remember.
The Sullivan County Commission officially proclaimed May 4, 2025, as 'Doshia Roller Day.'
Commissioner Zane Vanover read the proclamation aloud during Sunday's service at Vermont UMC while Roller's friends, family, and congregation surrounded her.
Roller said her late husband Homer was the church's pastor for several years, and she still attends in the front pew each Sunday.
She told News Channel 11 she was overwhelmed by all the love she'd received and that she had only made it so long through her faith in God.
'Oh, how do you think I could get this far without the Lord?' she said. 'The Lord is a staple of your life. He is your life. There is no way to get through life without the Lord. I can't talk about that. It's beyond me talking. I can't believe it.'
Roller is a former school teacher who has held numerous church positions over the years.
News Channel 11 wishes her a happy birthday.
