Nearly 90% of Americans suffer from potentially dangerous sleep disorder and aren't getting help
A new survey reveals many Americans suffer from a potentially dangerous sleep disorder and aren't getting the treatment they need. March is National Sleep Month . Doctors say sleep apnea, when people temporarily stop breathing, is very common. But many people don't realize they have it, and their health could be suffering as a result. Thomas Douaihy has been snoring for 20 years. The 59-year-old tried a dental device and nose strips, but a few months ago, his wife told him it was getting worse. "My wife starts saying, 'You're scaring me, I wanna wake you up because you're struggling to breathe,'" said Douaihy. Douaihy, who has recently retired and is very busy, also noticed he didn't have as much energy. "I started feeling a bit tired during the day. I'm a very active guy. I'm rehabbing my house in Florida," he said. A sleep test revealed he suffers from sleep apnea. New research from the National Sleep Foundation finds that nearly 90% of Americans said sleep apnea is a serious condition, but nearly one-third diagnosed are not currently being treated. "You're at increased risk for cardiovascular events, metabolic disorders, cognitive dysfunction, emotional and mental health problems," said Joseph Dzierzewski, senior vice president of Research & Scientific Affairs at the National Sleep Foundation. The report estimates that about 30 million Americans suspect they have sleep apnea and have not been diagnosed, and while most of the population knows CPAP is a frontline treatment option , they aren't aware of other options. "Things like lifestyle changes, diet, drinking behavior, smoking, options, implantable medical devices. There are mandibular advancement devices," said Dzierzewski. Douaihy is looking forward to when his CPAP machine arrives. "Waking up, not tired, waking up refreshed, not feeling sleepy during the day," he said. He's glad he listened to his wife so they both can start sleeping better. Sleep apnea is typically diagnosed through a sleep study, either overnight in a sleep lab or at home with special monitoring.

Head of Pro-Iran Armed Faction Arrested in Syria, Says Monitor
Security forces in Syria's eastern city of Deir Ezzor have arrested the head of an Iran-affiliated faction that fought alongside ousted President Bashar al-Assad's forces, a war monitor said Friday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said security forces detained Moayad Abdul Samad al-Douaihy in Deir Ezzor on Thursday. The Britain-based Observatory said Douaihy founded and led a faction known as the Sayyida Zeinab Brigade, affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guards. That faction was active in the city of Al-Mayadeen, fighting alongside Assad's forces, said the Observatory which has a network of sources in Syria. It added that Douaihy received Iranian citizenship after converting to the Shiite branch of Islam. Douaihy was "involved in a long list of crimes including financial blackmail, drug smuggling, theft of civilians' properties and selling displaced people's land to naturalized Iranian and Afghan mercenaries", the Observatory said. Security forces also arrested Major General Abdul Karim al-Muhaimid, the former political security chief in Deir Ezzor province under Assad, the monitor said. Iran had mobilized about 20,000 fighters, mostly Syrians, in different factions to fight alongside Assad's forces. Before Assad was toppled, much of Deir Ezzor province near the border with Iraq was a key stronghold of Iran-backed forces. Some handed in their weapons after Assad's ouster in December, but others remain in hiding, according to the Observatory. Since seizing power, Syria's new authorities have regularly announced the arrest of Assad-era security officials.

MP Michel Douaihy emphasizes Lebanese state's role in defense, grants confidence to government
In his remarks, MP Michel Douaihy reiterated the importance of keeping Lebanon neutral from regional conflicts and aligning with the principles of the rule of law and state institutions. He noted that the ministerial statement would have been more precise if it had replaced the phrase "Lebanon's right to self-defense" with "the Lebanese state's right to self-defense" to affirm that defense responsibilities lie solely with the state. Douaihy also urged the government to proceed with parliamentary and municipal elections as scheduled, stressing the need to uphold constitutional deadlines and democratic processes. "We are in front of a historic chance, and we have confidence in the oath, but notes must be taken. We decided to grant confidence to the government," Douaihy stated.
