Graham McCormack shows injuries after breaking jaw during fight

Graham McCormack promised he would go to war in Glasgow and that's exactly what the Limerick man did against Darren Johnstone on Saturday night. The 38-year-old suffered a bad cut above his right eye from a clash of heads in the second round of the British Boxing Board of Control Celtic Super Middleweight title fight and had his jaw broken by the Scot in the fourth before being stopped in the fifth. But McCormack, now 10-5-1, went out on his shield and showed incredible toughness at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central against Johnstone, 12 years his junior, who moved to 11-1 with the victory. The G-Train was aiming to follow up his December victory over Craig McCarthy, with defending champion Johnstone coming out all guns blazing from the off. A clash of heads in the second round caused a bad cut just above the right eye of McCormack, who fought on despite the heavy amount of blood that was flowing from it. A shot from Johnstone broke the veteran's jaw in the fourth, during which round a doctor inspected the cut to McCormack and said he was good to continue. Despite the jaw break, McCormack came back out for the fifth, but a right hook from Johnstone knocked the Irishman down in front of his corner and the towel came in with referee Victor Loughlin's count on eight. Posting on social media after the bout, McCormack wrote: "Sorry guys couldn't get going. Bad cut in round 2 from a headbutt. Jaw broke in round 4. Boxing is a tough, tough game. Thanks to each and every person for all the support. I appreciate it all. Went out on my shield this is boxing. Home to my family tomorrow. Thank you all."
