Canadian resort opens new course with ocean views and linksy golf
Fox Harb'r Resort in Nova Scotia has opened a new nine holes that, when combined with an existing nine, forms a new layout named the Ocean Course. It's part of a plan that eventually will see the Canadian property expand its golf offering from a previous 18 holes to 36.
Canadian course architects Doug Carrick and Tom McBroom designed the new nine holes along Northumberland Strait with links golf in mind. Those new nine holes temporarily have been paired with the back nine from the resort's pre-existing Championship Course to form the new Ocean Course, which opened to resort guests May 8 for the 2025 season. There is more work to come to complete what eventually will be the finished Ocean Course."The Ocean Course will unfold like a journey, building anticipation from inland terrain to commanding coastal vistas," Carrick said in a media release. "By the elevated fifth tee, golfers are met with a sweeping panorama of the Northumberland Strait and Prince Edward Island – one of the course's most stunning reveals."
Another nine more new holes are scheduled to be built and added to the existing front nine from the previous Championship Course to form the new Vineyard Course, which is planned to feature a more heathlands-style layout. That course is scheduled for completion in 2027.
The previous Championship Course featured two disparate nines, the front playing inland through trees before reaching a back nine that featured oceanside holes. By separating those two nines and building the new holes that complement each of the old nines, Fox Harb'r can offer two 18-hole courses that each have their own identity, the Ocean Course and the Vineyard Course.
'The Ocean Course is a major step forward for both our resort and the province,' Kevin Toth, president of Fox Harb'r Resort, said in the media release. 'It's a showcase of our region's coastal beauty and a testament to our commitment to creating extraordinary golf and travel experiences in Canada.'
It's all part of a multi-million dollar effort to upgrade the 1,400-acre resort, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. A new spa will open this spring, amid other enhancements. The resort was founded by Tim Hortons co-founder Ron Joyce.
