Cyclone and Bulldog fans embracing March Madness

AMES, Iowa — There was plenty of cheering at Sweet Carolines in Ames as the Cyclone women took on Michigan, losing 80-74. The Cyclone men had an easier road, topping first round opponent, Liscomb 82-55. Fans had plenty to cheer about. 'It's been an up-and-down season, but I think you know this is a great first game,' said Doug Mechaelsen, of Story City. 'It's nice to see both the offense and the defense get back on track, with Milan Momcilovic to be playing in his home state, he really stepped up and had a great game everybody else followed in and that was done well today.' Momcilovic goes on scoring streak during NCAA tourney opening round 'If no one else gets an injury and we just keep it at the one injury, but I think they rest when they can and lots of them will keep them pumped up,' said Karen Kruse, a Cyclone fan from Ames. At Drake University's bookstore Bulldog basketball fans came to get some NCAA March Madness shirts. They are still talking about the first round Drake win. 'My heart was racing the last five minutes but the last minute I was shouting up and down, screaming with my dogs,' said Allison Webb, a Drake fan from Woodward. 'I loved the game, I guess at the end of the game with the boys hung in and stayed true so I'm excited for the second round,' said Sam Zager, a Drake fan from Urbandale.'
