Spartans associate head coach Doug Wojcik not leaving for alma mater Navy head coach job
Spartans associate head coach Doug Wojcik not leaving for alma mater Navy head coach job Doug Wojcik was widely considered a candidate for the Navy head coaching job but he will reportedly not be leaving Michigan State for his alma mater It appears Michigan State basketball will be retaining one of its top assistant coaches. Navy is reportedly going to promote its Associate Head Coach Jon Perry to the permanent head coach role, according to CBS Sports analyst Jon Rothstein. This is notable news for Michigan State because Spartans associate head coach Doug Wojcik was widely considered one of the leading candidates for the Midshipmen head coaching gig. Wojcik played for Navy in the 80's where he was a team captain experienced a ton of success on the court. He was also an assistant coach for the Midshipmen in the 90's. So when the role became open last month, he was a clear cut favorite for the position. Wojcik was named the Big Ten's Howard Moore Assistant Coach of the Year this season for his part in helping the Spartans to another Big Ten championship. So this is big news for the Spartans should it result in him returning for another season at Michigan State next year. He, of course, could land another job elsewhere but this was a spot to monitor and it appears he will not be taking that job.
