Famed actor, FedEx executive will address HPU grads

HIGH POINT — Award-winning actor Jane Seymour and FedEx top executive Raj Subramaniam will speak to the class of 2025 at High Point University in three commencement ceremonies this week. Seymour will address the undergraduate class during commencements Saturday morning and afternoon while Subramaniam will speak to the graduate class on Thursday afternoon. The services, which are closed to the public, will take place in the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center. HPU is expected to confer nearly 1,700 undergraduate and graduate degrees. The graduations are expected to draw visitors from across the country and provide a boost to the local economy. 'High Point University's commencement weekend is one of the city's most impactful events that fuels the local visitor economy,' said Melody Burnett, president of the tourism promotion group Visit High Point. 'Welcoming more than 15,000 out-of-town guests and generating over $5 million in economic impact, our hospitality partners will be bustling with tourism business.' The two commencement speakers have lifetime achievements in their respective fields. Seymour, who has won an Emmy and Golden Globe, is an actor whose TV and movie credits date back to the 1970s. She gained international notice after she starred with Roger Moore in the 1973 James Bond film 'Live and Let Die.' One of her more prominent roles was starring in the TV program 'Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman.' Seymour has appeared in more than 100 films and TV shows and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999. Subramaniam serves as president and CEO of FedEx Corp., one of the world's largest transportation and logistics companies. He was named FedEx's CEO in June 2022, becoming only the second CEO in the company's 53-year history. His career advanced at FedEx after he started as an associate marketing analyst in 1991. Subramaniam has held various leadership roles during his more than 30 years with FedEx, which has a national cargo sorting hub at Piedmont Triad International Airport. pjohnson@ | 336-888-3528 | @HPEpaul
