Avoid distractions to stay safe near water this summer
(WKBN) – There will be a few peeks of sunshine Saturday and more to come in the week ahead, which means more people will be outside enjoying the nice weather.
Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff reminds us that while water can be fun this time of year, it can also be dangerous.
'We encourage adults to be water watchers. Pay close attention to kids who are near water. Avoid distractions around pools or other bodies of water — cell phones, books, alcohol. Always have a swim buddy. Pairing kids up can help keep everyone safe,' Vanderhoff said.
He also recommends wearing an SPF 30 or higher, a wide-brimmed hat and lightweight long-sleeve shirts to avoid sunburn.
