Who's in the News? Dr. Damon Fleming
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Dr. Damon Fleming has been appointed to be the next superintendent of Hopkins County Schools.
School officials say Dr. Fleming has served as the Hopkins County Schools assistant superintendent since 2021. They say Dr. Fleming has previously served as a teacher, school principal and director of student services in Muhlenberg and Daviess counties.
Dr. Fleming says he has been with the school system for about four years, and he wanted to take the opportunity to lead 'a good group of people.'

'So, I've been in Hopkins County Schools now for four years, and I've had a chance to meet the people, meet the students and be in the community. To be honest, what made me interested in being the superintendent of Hopkins County was just that. Our people are our greatest asset. And as I got to know the people better and know more of the people, I wanted to… continue to be part of that. And… have an opportunity to lead such a good group of people and to lead the community that we have that supports our school.'
Dr. Fleming was in law enforcement for many years before he felt a calling to shift his career path to education.
'So, I was in law enforcement for a number of years before I became a teacher and an educator. I always have felt throughout my life that being an educator and being in education was a calling… and a chance to make a difference in a child's life and have a positive influence. You know, law enforcement is a great career, and I enjoyed it. I worked with some really great people, but to be able to go and have a second career where you can make a difference in a child's life, to me that was appealing… and it's a way to give back to the community.'

Once he officially becomes the superintendent, Dr. Fleming says he plans to continue building on the relationships the school system already has.
'I feel like we have a really great school system. We have… great community support. I just want to continue and build on what we're already doing. I'm not looking to come in and make big changes or anything like that. I feel like we were really in a good place and want to build… on the relationships that we already have.'
