HHC doctor explains brain condition that led Billy Joel to cancel concerts
CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Singer Billy Joel is canceling all of his scheduled concerts due to a recently diagnosed health condition.
The Piano Man said Friday he has normal pressure hydrocephalus. The Cleveland Clinic said it's a condition that happens when fluid builds up inside the skull and presses on the brain.
'I'm sincerely sorry': Billy Joel cancels all concerts after being diagnosed with brain disorder
News8 spoke with Dr. Leon Meytin, a neurologist at Hartford Healthcare about Joel's condition. He explained the signs of the disease, and what treatment looks like.
'It comes on with the symptoms that are relatively nonspecific,' Dr. Meytin said. 'So meaning that it's not a specific that you get that might tell somebody 'Aha this is what you have.' You might just present some balance problems. So it's very important to have this checked on early because the treatment works much better the earlier its diagnosed.'
Dr. Meytin also says many people that get proper treatment early tend to see high levels of improvement over time.
