Chicago Blackhawks to select third in the NHL Draft
CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Blackhawks selected first in the NHL Draft two years ago. They selected second last year. This year they'll select third. That's the way the ping pong balls bounced Monday night in the Draft Blackhawks had a 13.5 percent chance of getting the top pick after finishing with the second worst record in the NHL this season. That number one pick went to the New York Islanders. The San Jose Sharks, the team with the worst record this season, winds up with the second Blackhawks have landed some great players drafting third over the years. They include Denis Savard (1980), Eddie Olczyk (1984) and Jonathan Toews (2006). The NHL Draft will take place Friday, June 27th. The Blackhawks have four picks in the first two rounds, two in the first and two in the second. They'll have nine picks overall to add to their already deep pool of young prospects in the organization.
