One injured during shooting in Drake Neighborhood, DMPD investigates
DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was injured during a shooting in the Drake Neighborhood, according to the Des Moines Police Department. According to the DMPD, just before 6 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1500 block of 32nd Street. The injured person, a male, drove themselves from the incident scene and was then involved in a crash near MLK Jr Parkway and Meek Avenue. DMPD personnel transported the injured man to a Des Moines hospital. One person dead in Floyd County crash Officers at the scene have detained a potential involved person and recovered one handgun, according to the DMPD. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. DMPD officers say this appears to be a targeted incident and there is no indication of any ongoing danger to the neighborhood. Fire in boarded-up home in Drake neighborhood, DMFD investigates
DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Fire Department responded to a fire at a boarded-up home in the Drake neighborhood Friday night. Just before 9 p.m., DMFD crews were called to the 2200 block of University Avenue on reports of a structure fire with heavy fire showing, according to Des Moines Fire Department Fire Chief Brian Davis 3 seriously injured in crash in Union Park neighborhood Fire crews arrived on the scene and found heavy flames coming from the three-story house. Crews began efforts to remove the boarding and knock down the flames. Once flames were under control, a primary search did not find anybody in the home. An additional engine was called in due to the several stories in the home all containing flames. Crews were able to extinguish flames on the first and second floors quickly. Flames in the attic took longer to get under control. Based on the preliminary investigation, the fire started in the back of the home on the outside before making its way inside and spreading.
