Jeremy Sochan Gets Brutally Honest About Role With San Antonio Spurs

Jeremy Sochan Gets Brutally Honest About Role With San Antonio Spurs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan might not be the most versatile player in the NBA, but the team has certainly expected him to be willing and able to do almost anything. Advertisement A natural power forward, Sochan has played center, served as a connector on offense, and even got to play point guard for the Spurs in his second NBA season, although that experiment failed. Sochan is well-known for being one of the most fun-loving and in-your-face players in the NBA, a modern-day Dennis Rodman who excels on defense. However, he doesn't always have the best of times with the Spurs. "These last two years have been tough," he revealed to Hoopsfix. "I've played from point guard, which I never did until the NBA at the highest level, I played backup center, I played all positions. For me, the toughest part was to find consistency in it. Sometimes I didn't know what was going to happen." While that might sound like a player who is dejected, Sochan has fully bought into the Spurs' longstanding culture of putting the team first. Advertisement He isn't upset that he played point guard because it's not his normal position; he's upset that he didn't excel in the spot, and he believes he let his teammates down. "I always want to compete and give the best to the team," he explained. "And I feel like at times I couldn't achieve that. So I think that was the toughest part." Sochan is yet to make the postseason in his NBA career and was relegated to the bench in the second half of last season despite a solid start, which was cut short by injuries. The hope is that Sochan can be an elite team defender and rise to the occasion in the postseason. Players like Andrew Nembhard, Lu Dort, Josh Hart, and Jaden McDaniels aren't exactly lethal scorers, although their defensive impact and "glue guy" status keep them in the playoff rotations.
