Organizers unveil the future of Raleigh's Dreamville Festival

Raleigh's Dreamville Festival will continue in the city under a new brand, Sascha Stone Guttfreund, a promoter with Dreamville and Live Nation, said in a news conference Thursday with Raleigh officials. Why it matters: The news, which comes two days before the fifth Dreamville is set to begin, is welcome after North Carolina-born rapper J. Cole announced earlier this year that this festival would be the last in its current form. Cole will remain involved, but it's unclear whether he will perform in future festivals. Driving the news: The city has been in talks with Live Nation for months about continuing the festival. The pair signed an agreement Thursday that commits the festival to running in the city for another four years at Dix Park. Raleigh city manager Marchell Adams-David said the agreement does not include a financial subsidy from the city. The big picture: Since it launched in 2018, Dreamville has become one of Raleigh's signature cultural events and a serious driver of the local economy. It brings in tens of thousands of visitors who book hotels, eat at local restaurants and shop local vendors. In 2023, Dreamville visitors spent $122 million in the area, according to a report commissioned by festival organizers. Between the lines: But with J. Cole taking a step back, it has left the future of the festival, especially under the Dreamville name, uncertain. State of play: While no name has yet been picked for the new festival, Adams-David said she expects it to remain similar in content and style. "We're going to continue on the same path that's been successful for us," she said. "Consumers have told us what they like, and we're going to try to provide that to them for the next four years." What they're saying: Ibrahim "Ib" Hamad, president of Dreamville Records and J. Cole's manager, said Dreamville has always wanted to create something special for J. Cole's home state. "North Carolina is Cole's home. This is where he started ... so we always wanted to bring something back to the state," Hamad said. But in Raleigh, he added, it's found a helpful partner that is also strategically located on the East Coast. "The location is great because ... you can drive from Atlanta, you could drive from New York, you could drive from so many places because [North Carolina] is really right there in the middle," he said. "I always felt like there was a void of, you know, a big festival like this" in the state.

Lil Wayne, 21 Savage and J. Cole will headline Raleigh's 2025 Dreamville Festival

Lil Wayne, 21 Savage and J. Cole are among the headliners at this year's fifth and final Dreamville Festival in Raleigh. Why it matters: The lineup for Dreamville's finale, which was released Monday less than three weeks before the festival is set to take place, has been long anticipated. The festival has consistently been one of Raleigh's largest events, regularly bringing around 100,000 visitors to Dorothea Dix Park since it began in 2019. Driving the news: Lil Wayne will headline the festival's first day, Saturday, April 5, with Hot Boys and Big Tymers. 21 Savage will also perform Saturday night. J. Cole will headline the festival's second day as he has in years past, along with Erykah Badu and Tems. Wale, GloRilla, Ari Lennox and BigXthaPlug will also perform at the festival, according to the lineup released by the festival Monday. What's next: General admission tickets for the two-day festival are available starting at $299.99. Other ticket options are sold out but you can join the waitlist. Planning to go to Dreamville 2025? GloRilla to perform at the 2025 Dreamville Festival

Rapper GloRilla will perform at Raleigh's Dreamville Festival this spring. Why it matters: Past festival lineups have typically featured notable female rappers, and GloRilla — a Grammy-nominated artist who skyrocketed to fame with her 2022 anthem "FNF (Let's Go)" — is sure to be a major draw. State of play: We're two months away from the final Dreamville Festival without an official artist lineup but GloRilla's recent tour schedule reveals that she'll be making an appearance. Driving the news: Last week, GloRilla announced her upcoming tour " The GLORIOUS Tour" which indicates she'll be performing on April, 6 (day two) of the Dreamville Festival. She'll also make another North Carolina stop at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte on March 13. Tickets start at $53.90. Catch up quick: GloRilla was expected to perform in the 2023 festival, which featured headliners like Drake and Usher, but didn't perform her full set during her time slot. Towards the end of the festival, J Cole brought her out to perform a couple of songs. Flashback: Last year we saw a similar tour schedule announcement from Nicki Minaj that indicated she'd be performing before festival organizers announced the full lineup. What's next: An official festival lineup will be released soon. General admission tickets for the two-day festival are available for $299.99-$309.99. Other ticket options are sold out but you can join the waitlist. Go deeper: Our artist predictions for Dreamville Festival 2025
