What's Driving You Crazy? – Even small towns have road work

ELY, NV ( KLAS ) – It's not always about the cones and construction in and around Las Vegas. It was standing room only recently in downtown Ely at a Nevada Dept of Transportation public meeting on upcoming road work. At least one person was excited about. Lifelong Elyite Virginia Terry: 'It's going to increase the pride of our downtown. This will bring more and more [business] in.: The head of NDOT, Linda Larkin Thomason, was on hand to talk about the impact of the 'Complete Streets' project: 'Think of every single cone as 'someone has a job, and progress is being made.'' So was Ely's mayor, Nathan Robertson: 'Infrastructure is the one main thing that government can do that's an investment, and the city is proud to be a partner of that.' Just like us 'big city' folk in Las Vegas, drivers in Ely, you have about a year-&-a-half of cones and lane restrictions before the project wraps up. Buckle up, drive carefully – and please put down that phone! You can join the Driving You Crazy conversation: traffic8@ Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. What's Driving You Crazy? A viewer complaint about people driving on freeway shoulders

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – A viewer has a few words for 'that guy' on the freeway. Christina writes: 'What's up with people intentionally driving on the right shoulder / exit lane then cutting into freeway traffic just before the exit? It's dangerous and just plain rude. Wait your turn. That lane is for people exiting only, not to bypass traffic because you think you're entitled! You just create chaos by being impatient. Notice how people don't want to let you in when you're trying to cut? You are a crash waiting to happen!' Couldn't have said it better, Christina. Thanks for writing. Nevada State Police sometimes look specifically for shoulder drivers when southbound I-15 backs up at the California state line at Primm after holiday weekends. What's Driving You Crazy? – It's not just cars being affected by the 3-year-long makeover of Summerlin Pkwy and the 215 Western Beltway

At the 3-year-long makeover of the 215 Western Beltway and Summerlin Pkwy, it's not just cars being affected. Walkers and bike riders are also feeling the pinch. The Clark County Public Works Department recently shut down the 215 Beltway Trail between Summerlin Pkwy and Far Hills. The recommended half-mile detour takes you a little further west of the Beltway to the residential street Carriage Hill Drive. The closure and detour are scheduled to last into September, so: heads-up to drivers on Carriage Hill to keep a closer eye out for walkers and bicyclists. By the way, the road work has also shut down the access ramp from westbound Summerlin Pkwy to the southbound 215 beltway. You can go north on the beltway to Lake Mead and come back south, or work your way to Far Hills to access the southbound beltway. Clark County's web page on the project has weekly updates.
