National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this weekend
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A national effort this weekend serves as a reminder to safely dispose of old prescription drugs. Saturday is recognized as National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. There will be a prescription drug disposal site set up outside Baesler's Market on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Terre Haute Police, Drug Free Vigo County and Chances and Services For Youth are partnering to provide this event for the community. 'You just don't realize, maybe how much of expired medications you can accumulate over the years,' said Cammy Reed, Drug Free Vigo County Coordinator. 'You think, 'oh, it's not a big deal,' I'll just leave it in my medicine cabinet, but there are a lot of people who have substance use problems, and maybe they might come over to your house. Maybe it's a family member, and they might rummage through your cabinet, so it's just safer to get rid of them.' In addition to prescription drug disposal, the event at Baesler's will also offer document shredding. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 2nd annual Circles of Change Conference coming soon
VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Drug Free Vigo County, in partnership with Chances and Services for Youth, is hosting their 2nd annual Circles of Chance Conference. The event aims to raise awareness on substance misuse and provide drug prevention education. The conference will take place at the Terre Haute Convention Center on March 4th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Senator Holly Thompson, who has worked for over a decade changing laws and fighting social stigmas to better protect women and children. Brandon Halleck, Treasurer of Drug Free Vigo County, said their hope is to educate residents on the problems, and give solutions, happening right here in Vigo County. 'Our goal is to raise awareness on the programming that we have going on in the community and some of the issues that are facing our kids today', Halleck said. 'We know the state of the youth and some of the issues that we are seeing, not just with our youth, but with our families. This is an opportunity to see what is going on and then really focus on what some points are that we can go forward and make a change in our community.' The event is aimed towards adults, but the conference is open to all ages and will have youth speakers as well. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
