Nearly 5,100 heroin bags seized during alleged gun call on St. James Ave in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield officers seized a trafficking weight of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and firearm accessories from a vehicle following an alleged gun assault. In a news release from the Springfield Police Department, at around 8 a.m. last Friday, officers were called to St. James Ave. for a report of someone allegedly pointing a firearm at a victim. During the investigation, officers received information from the Real-Time Analysis Center of a photo of the suspect and the suspected vehicle involved. Springfield man arrested after gun seized from cross-body bag The vehicle was found at around 10 a.m. on Page Blvd with the suspect in the driver's seat. Officers observed another person get into the passenger's side and drive away. Additional officers arrived to assist as the driver pulled into a nearby gas station. Officers could see cocaine inside the car, and arrested the driver, 31-year-old Kevin Martinez-Sanchez, and the passenger, 55-year-old Edgardo Vargas, both of Springfield. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Northampton was arrested during an investigation into illegal drug activity on Belmont Ave in Springfield. In a news release from the Springfield Police Department, for the past several months, the Firearms Investigation Unit were investigating complaints from residents about illegal drug activity in the area of Belmont Avenue. Detective identified the target as 44-year-old Rafael Aviles of Northampton. Mugshots released in Massachusetts 'Operation No Love' fentanyl takedown At around 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, law enforcement conducted a search warrant at an apartment on Belmont Ave. Aviles was inside and detained during the search. Detectives seized approximately 22 grams of powder and crack-cocaine, nearly $2,000, loose ammunition, 15 bags of heroin and a loaded firearm. (WWLP) – A Chicopee man was arrested after police found a machine gun inside a stolen vehicle that was tracked through city cameras in Springfield during a ShotSpotter activation investigation. The Springfield Police Department said at around 4:05 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to Oak Grove Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. With the help of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center, officers were provided with a photo of a suspected vehicle. Wilbraham man arrested for alleged violent threats against officials online The vehicle, which was reported stolen, was tracked using city cameras and found in a parking lot on the 600 block of State Street. Two suspects were located, but one of them ran away from the police. A search inside the car revealed a firearm with a sear-selector switch, which turns a firearm into a fully automatic machine gun. Three Springfield residents arrested after drug complaint on Heyward Street

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were arrested on Tuesday after officers seized a stolen firearm and drugs after complaints of drug dealing in Springfield. ICE raid confirmed in Springfield, arrest made Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that at around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, officers were sent to Heyward Street for a drug complaint. The officers were told that a subject, or subjects, in a pickup truck was allegedly selling drugs to people in recovery. When officers arrived, the truck was located with three people inside and two subjects hovering the outside of the truck. When the outside subjects saw the officers, they distanced themselves from the truck. A traffic stop was conducted, and the officers discovered that the truck was not properly registered. The driver, who was later identified as 48-year-old Orlando Navarro-Borges of Springfield, was trying to manipulate something in his lap and wouldn't immediately show the officers his hands. Navarro-Borges was trying to conceal cocaine from the officers, and was placed into custody. He also has a prior conviction on firearm charges out of Dudley District Court. Heroin was also recovered from the front seat passenger, 35-year-old Christine Hernandez of Springfield, and was also taken into custody. As officers were searching the truck, officers found crack cocaine, cocaine, and heroin that was packaged for sale. Officers also seized a large-capacity firearm that was loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition and was reported stolen out of Indiana.
