Wisconsin once again ranks first in United States for Spring 2025 Drug Take Back
(WFRV) – Wisconsin once again came out on top against all other states for the most prescription medications collected during the Spring 2025 Drug Take Back collection. On Friday, May 16, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that Wisconsin ranked first in the entire United States after collecting 56,818 pounds of unwanted medications this spring. Wisconsin State Patrol ramps up seat belt enforcement for Click It or Ticket campaign Finishing second last spring, and first last fall, Wisconsin has had years of success while participating in Drug Take Back day. Since the program's inception in 2010, the dairy state has collected 1,369,472 pounds of medications, ranking third (behind Texas and California) in the country during that span. 'Drug Take Back continues to be a major success in Wisconsin,' said Attorney General Josh Kaul. 'Thank you to the many people who've helped get unused and unwanted medications disposed of safely.' Beloved Wisconsin chiropractor killed in high-speed crash while walking with family
COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. (WFRV) – A community in Wisconsin is mourning the loss of a well-known doctor after a vehicle struck her and members of her family Monday evening. Heartland Family Chiropractic in Cottage Grove confirmed that Dr. Kami Hansen died after a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed jumped a curb and struck her while she was on a walk with her family. Her son reportedly underwent emergency surgery, though his condition was unknown at the time of this publication. Sheriff in Wisconsin collects over two pounds of unused, expired meds during Drug Take Back Dr. Hansen was a respected figure in the Cottage Grove area, known for her involvement in civic life and local causes. The Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce, where she served as a board member for six years and sat on two committees, also confirmed her death in a social media post. 'Dr. Kami was a beloved Chamber Member… She loved her community and always wanted the very best for it,' the post stated. A memorial fund for her family has been set up through the Cottage Grove Community Foundation, which helps support victims of tragic local events. According to the Cottage Grove Police Department, the crash happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Landmark Drive. A preliminary investigation indicates that multiple people—and a dog—were injured after a vehicle left the roadway and struck them. Three individuals were transported to a hospital. Police say speed was a factor in the crash and that a full investigation is underway in collaboration with the Dane County District Attorney's Office. Sheriff in Wisconsin collects over two pounds of unused, expired meds during Drug Take Back
DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said that its bi-annual Drug Take Back event over the weekend was a success, as it saw plenty of people participate. Over 2.3 pounds of unused and/or expired medicine were brought into the Dodge County Sheriff's Office over the weekend for the Drug Take Back, which helps people dispose of unneeded medicine. Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications. Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), mercury thermometers.
